Can we have. A little love

Tell your compatriots to learn how to use Google. It took me all of 3 seconds to find this information.
@Tyrick
Why should they read my post at top it would take 3 seconds also for a dev to post GMT aswell as your timzones.
So hows about we forget your litttle post and carry on and ask for it were all entitled to a say !
X:00 PDT = (X+7+Y):00 GMT+Y
Not that hard imho.
Turn on the in-game clock and have it show server time. Problem solved.
i agree with the OP,
GMT is the original timezone,
respect the line.
Reading comprehension is sad….. so many people with so little thought.
The post isn’t about the poster needing to convert time. It is about everyone else needing to learn to convert time. You can’t do any of the above “solutions” since it requires teaching all of humanity. The post is about the fact humans are lazy.
Listing PST/PDT along with GMT is just more friendly to the international community. Frankly, I’m tired of converting 3-4 times to tell members of my international guild what time it is where I am, when the event starts for them, when so-and-so usually gets off work at their own time and will join us, and then converting all back again to all our times……
Having just GMT would be convenient and was expected.

Also, Daylight Saving Time is not a world event. Come November 4th, the time conversion will shift 1 hour for different places. It’ll be a mess.

It’ a single +7 hours offset. If you have an international guild, then you have to deal with conversions regardless it being PST/PDT.
I don’t see a reason why is it so hard to teach people, that PDT mean GMT-7.
DST only occurs twice in a year. I really hope everyone can live through that event without too much confusion.
If they’re only giving the times in one format it should be GMT.
Because there is an in-game clock that always shows GMT time?
Because GMT is the universal timezone from which all other timezones are derived.
zogrim,
do you know what GMT is? I think you might be mistaking it for something.
In game clock does not show GMT time, it either shows server time or your local time (time on your machine).
Also, are you aware of the fact that f.e. DST (Daylight-Saving Time) is observed quite differently in different regions of the world? Some of regions not observing it at all, others begining/ending on different days?
So it’s not always that simple as adding / substractijng same number of hours to get your timezone, unfortunatelly.
I don’t see how listing xx PST (yy GMT) would make much difference for ANet and it makes a world of a difference for players around the world.
To be honest, I can’t even think of any other company handling global business / announcements without giving out times in GMT as well.
It is much easier to only have to know how your zone is relative to GMT times at any given moment.
And Tyrick, it’s really ignorant and flat out rude to sent people to Google when they can handle themselves perfectly otherwise.

To make it even a bigger mess, most of Europe is going to change from Daylight Saving Time back already this weekend.
Daylight savings is not effin complicated. PDT = pacific daylight savings time. PST = pacific standard time AKA NOT daylight savings time. If you would actually read what PDT means you would know this.
If you really want to be “international” maybe you should learn how time zones work.

How I am the ignorant one? I am not the one that doesn’t know how to figure out time zones. There are literally hundreds of web sites that will do this conversion simply yet people will kitten rather than just figuring it out on their own.
And I recall seeing dev posts specifically stating that the Halloween patch would be up after midnight GMT so the complaint is totally unfounded anyway. No one had an exact time.
Look maybe I am biased, but I used to work with international clients every day, and every day I had to do conversions to ensure I was timely to phone meetings and such. It is not hard.
I know what GMT is, and I know that in-game I can see the server time (PDT/PST) and my local time (which happens to be GMT+1). This alone gives enough reason for me for them using Pacific time. (Also I might be late and they may have updated it, but Act 3 time is also given in GMT).
No I was not aware of the fact that DST could be so messed up. I didn’t know that the DST switch could occur over a week instead of a day. So mea culpa on that one.
Also, and this is my last thought on the topic:
*All times and dates are shown in US Pacific Time (UTC-7:00)
Lifted right from the main page. If people can’t subtract 7 then IDK what else to tell you.
Look maybe I am biased, but I used to work with international clients every day, and every day I had to do conversions to ensure I was timely to phone meetings and such. It is not hard.
I know this is off-topic-ish…
But you made like 3 posts in a row. I realize I don’t have a moderator badge on me or anything, but it is common forum courtesy for a user to use the edit button for additional information that follows an original post if no one else has posted after you.
The edit button here is the small pencil button on the bottom right of your post.
Whenever you feel like you want to add more to what you said, but no one has responded, please edit it.
The reason behind this is so you don’t unnecessarily bump the thread back up to the top with your extra posts.
Best regards.

Yeah, I am a pretty frequent forum poster and I didn’t mean to spam the topic. Normally I am the edit champ revising posts 3 times after I submit them, but for some reason the forum is really slow for me to edit.
It’s late and I’m overly excited about this topic for no reason. Honestly I’m not against them posting it in GMT… I am against people claiming it is difficult to figure out time zones when it isn’t. And besides, no one really had a definite time, all we knew in the US was that it would be “sometime in the evening PST”, they actually came out and said “after midnight GMT” which is actually more of a bone than they threw US players.
Best wishes to all, I need sleep.

+1 for this – All times should be shown in GMT.

You are a bit dense.
Read the post above. The world doesn’t revolve around knowing when America starts and stops Daylight Saving Time. Some countries have it, some don’t. And the ones that do, do not have it coincide with America.
It’s really great that you can convert time. Congratulations! I’m so happy for you!
The original poster can convert too! So can I! So can the others here! Wow! We are all so awesome! Pat on the back guys!
The issue, that was plainly spelled out with the original post, was that it helps us in dealing with others who do not convert time, or make mistakes. Adding or subtracting is so simple, that many tend to make careless mistakes. Or whatever reasons they have. I can empathize.
Just because I can do it doesn’t mean I’ll judge another who can’t. Nor will I say “hey, it’s easy for me so just figure it out”. That isn’t helpful.
Listing UTC (GMT) is just one tiny step closer to being helpful, as the world flips their clocks come their end to Daylight Saving (if they have one).

Don’t worry about it, just thought I’d point it out, not trying to be mean or anything.
About the time, it’s more a convenience for the users than anything else. Anet broke a norm and it’s causing a bit of confusion. People could go out oftheir way and learn how to do conversions, or Anet could simply announce things GMT as well.
It’s a no brainer or either side. :P Don’t worry about being grumpy and get some sleep.
The fact of the matter is that either side could make the initiative to go out of their way to do a little change.
It’s just that if Anet does it, they’d be doing thousands of players a quick favor, whereas if they don’t, those thousands are going to have to (individualy) go out of their way to figure out conversions, which isn’t a pain in the kitten but it’s an extra step they have to take.
No one likes extra steps.
For example, I hate going into my bag to equip my mater-meeter, I kinda wish we had an extra slot somewhere in the UI for food or holiday equips like those, but we don’t so I have to go that extra step.
At the end of the day, I’m complaining about an extra click I have to do to get something… kind of ridiculous, isn’t it?
But it is what it is.
Again, get some rest and good night.
If they’re only giving the times in one format it should be GMT.
Except for Anet is an American company. Why would they display times for a country that they aren’t in? Or more specifically why would they make that their primary time display on their website?

I think the whole thing on either side is kind of silly (read my previous post to this) but I feel like it is common courtesy.
Also, GMT is used universally.
Your argument would stand ground if Anet was an american company who’s sole focus was the US, and people from the outside were using US servers.
However, it’s not, so it would be courteous of them to offer GMT.
At the same time, it’s a simple as learning a time conversion.
But it’s the idea of one guy in the office typing in GMT vs. thousands learning conversions.
If they’re only giving the times in one format it should be GMT.

UTC isn’t a country.
It is a scientific standard.
If they’re only giving the times in one format it should be GMT.

Because more of their servers are in Europe perhaps?
If they’re only giving the times in one format it should be GMT.
Except for Anet is an American company. Why would they display times for a country that they aren’t in?
Because Anet are a company that caters to a global customer base. We purchase and use a variety of services from American companies on a daily basis, they localise. They don’t give us prices in dollars and tell us to use a currency converter, and they give up times and dates relevant to us.
GMT is the universally recognised international timezone. Even the US military use GMT.
I agree, takes a simple google + copy & paste to put in a kittening GMT time conversion, im way to lazy to do it myself so i’ll just have to find out when i load up GW2 and theres a new patch available. :|
And they did cater to a global customer base. They put the time right on the kitten page. If you can’t even go to it and read it then nothing will help you.
Begins October 28 (12:00 PM PT/19:00 GMT)
They can’t make it any clearer than that.
Agreed with OP.
GMT is the mean time
MEAN TIME.
Im from Asia and im GMT +8 and I still prefer things on an international basis to be GMT
Not on PDT Not on EST not on DST but GMT.
They did put a GMT? Did you guys even bother to look at the webpage?
@ Fellyn, on that page, yes. But there have been others where they don’t give both times.
Also, there was huge confusion in map chat LA over the start of the entire event as well, since for quite a while they had that big banner saying it started on the 22nd October. Rummaging on Twitter while waiting for the event to start then revealed that it was only starting on 23rd October in the EU.
They need to be clearer on the dates as well, right from the initial advertising. There were a lot of very disappointed people waiting for the event.

Sorry I don’t have the tolerance for laziness and stupidity that you do. I have no idea how these people can even figure out the controls for the game if they can’t either 1) look at the event page which clearly shows the conversion, or 2) Google a stupid time zone website.
Hello,
Thank you for your feedback. We will forward your concern to our teams.
