Most can agree that the GW2 pvp system is great. Except the fact that a lot of it is build wars 2. With GvG coming out soon (according to PAX interviews and some other stuff) I will suggest a GvG game play type, Capture the Flag. Capture the Flag has been extremely popular in other mmo’s such as Everquest 2 and WoW. I have thought about this and i feel like this will probably be the most balanced game play type. Please tell me what you think, and if you have any more suggestions/corrections to this post, please reply. (yes i know, some people probably mentioned this before)

There will be 3 types of Capture the Flag
-5v5
-10v10
-15v15 (idk about this ones, seems a little large but it will cater to the WvW teams)

There shall be 2 forts for each team (red/blue) and a flag corresponding to the team color. One person from each group must grab the flag from the enemy fort and bring it back to their own base, but you must also have your own flag in order to cap the enemy’s (this will prevent both teams from just speed running the other team’s flag back and forth, and will also force their entire team to split up and prevent zerg balls). Before the enemy can enter your fort, they must destroy a destructible gate, similar to the one in the Charr/Ascalon fractal. There should be about 2 gates so they can’t just have their team sit in one place. Also the distance between the 2 forts should be a decent distance so both teams have a good area to maneuver around and fight (this also calls for some terrain so it can be used to the advantage)

There are many OP/gimmicky builds and comps that can be used here, but i have been trying to figure out ways to counter them in a balanced way.

-No stealth while holding the flag (prevent perma-stealth thieves)

-A full group of tanks (guardians/warriors etc) won’t be able to burst down the enemy flag carrier, and they would be a lot slower on taking down the gate into the fort.

-Even if people try to stack classes like 10 man mesmer or all condi meta, etc, those comps would just be crushed by any well balanced comp and good players.

-Once the flag carrier goes down, the flag is dropped and can be picked up by either the enemy, or the flag’s owners.

-Zerging here would be extremely inefficient because you would need an attack team to obtain the enemy flag, a defense team to defend your own flag, and possibly a scouting team to scout the enemy movements and any incoming attack teams.

-No siege, because siege would be really dumb in something like this.

-!! The way the gear works can go both ways. Spvp system where you have amulet/runes/sigils so everyone on the playing field is balanced, OR make it like WvW where you can use whatever gear you want, and make your composition/build as versatile as you want it to be. (which do you prefer?)

I feel like this kind of PvP would be amazing for GW2 because of the fast paced combat, and the way the game style is set up is pretty balanced, if you have any suggestions or better counters to gimmicky comps/builds, please do post and reply. It would be amazing if Anet added this into the game.
