Cash on Delivery (COD) Mail Option
I really don’t want to see sales spam in /Map.
The devs probably won’t do it because they like their gold sink. Unless of course they could take a 15% fee from the sales price, but even then they want you to buy (for $$$) their temp remote market access power.

I already do, and have seen it since early access.
The only thing Anet managed to do is open more players up to being scammed. The idea for everything to be done via the Trader is a wonderful idea…until you limit access to trade items to having to go to an NPC to pick them up.
Not everyone wants to have to go back to town and have their gameplay massively interuppted when they are used to being able to get items right away.
Bad idea, good intentions…now address the situation.
Oh I agree that it’s a poor implementation. Nevertheless, the reasons I cite in the paragraph you didn’t quote will probably prevent this from happening.
I actually liked SWTOR’s system where you could pick up goods/cash from CH exchanges at your mail box, and mail boxes were all over (except in your ship, WTH?).

Implementation of COD or Trade Interface is inevitable.
Here is why:
Inflation is a fact of life in mmos. We’ve already seen a significant amount of inflation as the market has matured. High volume high ticket items are selling for 5g or more. The smarter players are going to realize that they are losing 15s of every gold to the trading post and say hey…. why am i paying someone for nothing… why am I throwing away 75 silver on that five gold transaction.
So the risk is will i get scammed by 1 out of every 5 players? If not its worth the risk to go ahead and sell through mail for less than the trading post say 20s less to make the item move and still make 55 silver more than I would trading on the post.
When someone doesn’t send me the cash they promised in chat that’s what? A Scam right? That’s what ArenaNet is supposed to prevent against right? Oh well im going to report that person and i am going to complain on the forums. Tying up Anet’s resources to resolve or at least read the complaint before doing anything. In the end it costs them money by not making secure transactions player to player a way to do it.
Those who aren’t willing to do player to player trades non securely through mail?
Well they nerfed farming golf.
Gold sellers are cheaper than buying gems.
What do you think they are going to do?
It’s a win win for anet to implement this sort of option it doesn’t hurt them in the long run it actually saved them money.
Anet needs to focus on offering new exciting things through the cash shop for gems instead of trying to restricting the gold in the game. In my opinion broaden the exchange rates of gold to gems versus gems to gold even further than the 25% it is now. Make it make more sense to buy gems with cash than with gold to get those cash shop items – people will do it.

No, COD is not inevitable. The devs do not want you to trade one-on-one with anyone. They want you to use the marketplace. To that end, they have made the marketplace accessible anywhere. They have added gem-store items that allow you to pick up your trade goods anywhere. They’ve put Black Lion agents all over the world, too.
I prefer the dev’s design. Yes, inflation is inevitable, but that isn’t the only reason COD is barred. COD is barred to prevent trade chat from dominating and washing out all other conversations in the big cities. COD is barred to prevent scams, scams that scare off new players and damage trusting players. Once the trading post is stabilized, there will be no compelling reason for COD. You’re only hoping it’s implemented because you (wrongly) assume it would be free of the 15% fee, or because you want to scam people. There’s no reason to implement it without the 15% fee, you know.
That is where you are wrong Sparkie.
Eventually it will become a burden to Anet’s time and resources and I already know of plenty of people that are more than willing to continue to take up Anet’s time on this issue.
I for one will continue to use chat to sell items and report anyone that attempts to scam me out of money and am in an alliance filled with guilds that have other people that are going to do it as well.
We want our guild based MMO to be a SOCIAL based game and one of the key factors of socialising in MMOs is trading goods. So, no. I reject your idea that ALL PLAYERS must be vastly limited and have even MORE social aspects of the game kept out of it as well as reject your idea that CoD mail causes scams when in FACT IT PREVENTS it. The only way you can be scammed with CoD mail is if you cannot take the time to READ what items and what money is in it before clicking accept…which means THOSE people are subject to being scammed by the Trade Post…because they WONT be reading what they are buying!
So, the game has no CoD now, yet has all the things you say having CoD causes. Thus, leaving CoD out causes far more harm than good for what it takes away from the game…a player based economy supported by a great deal of player interaction and socialising.
@Sparkie How does having COD promote scams? This is implied in your statement that having no CODs prevents scams.
Agreed, either a COD option or maybe a trade feature that doesn’t just feature the in-game mail system. This would help with the server scamming.
Was just about to suggest the same thing.
Mh, i don’t know about that. Gems are rising pretty much by 17 silver last time i checked it in just a couple of days already, now that everyone starts to get a big bundle of coins.
Besides that, i wouldn’t understand why you would want to receive gold from someone that hacked into someones account. To eventually use it as a bot and sell gold from.
CoD doesn’t promote scamming. The only thing that promotes scamming is a way to actually receive it like mail and trading it in person.
Edit;
Come to think of it, makes it more legit and harder to find. If you give me items and i’d send you gold as C.O.D. but like probably items that are totally pointless. But, how do you want to verify transactions that happen like that? Gold for items. What could possibly be wrong there?
i know it’s logical but, just wanted to state it. Because that was a big mistake. =/

Well I was gonna suggest the same since someone just had to trust me and send the item I wanted to me first, I then sent him the amount of gold he wanted.
There sure isn’t a safe way to trade if you don’t wanna pay the 15%.
