Some people have, from time to time, asked on these forums why such-and-such a character name was not allowed. Sometimes it is a clear violation of the rules and other times it seems as if denial was based on an extraordinarily liberal interpretation of the rules. The same thing can be said about forum post censorship but there is nothing I can think of to help with that other than utilizing more diligent and conservative self-censorship. But as far as the character name thing goes, a simple web page with a text box and a button on it that tests whether a name will be allowed or not prior to character creation could be of use to some people. Granted, it is a relatively small thing, but some people might benefit from it; the cost of making such a tool would probably be so low as to make it worthwhile.

This is a good idea. It’s probably easier than reacting to innumerable ingame reports from the players and would save the offending player’s some time.

I would like the Name Creation Screen to be the 1st Screen. Why should I have to jump through several screens just to find out the name I want is already taken?

Or at least when you enter a name and it is acceptable, have there be a “Confirm?” step before you’re done.
