I think that it would be cool to have the option to chat in New Krytan. It would be great for roleplaying!

We could maybe have it that you can enable/disable New Krytan chat in your settings. And make it so that you have to do something like: "/krytan ………. " to talk in New Krytan. I think that it would be decently easily implemented because you just have to change the font for it to be Krytan. We could have a mouse hover action that shows you the English text, so you can understand what people say even if you don’t understand New Krytan.

Some races write New Krytan slightly differently, so it would also be cool if you would see that in the chat: if you’re an Asura you write like an Asura and so on. (it should also be possible to have npc text in New Krytan if you ask me.)

I’m a little confused. Are you asking for a new font or a system that translates text?

It might be pretty difficult to get a translator going in a typo heavy environment (game chat).

Huh, I wonder how they localize for different languages that use the same characters? Does New Krytan have its own dictionary?

It does not, i think that they use English only. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/New_Krytan atleast thats what the wiki says.

New Krytan is just a basic cipher from English, which is why all that would be needed to write it would be a font change. It’s basically Windings; all you have to do is learn/replace the corresponding characters.

If they ever did something like this, I definitely hope it would be an opt-in feature, where if you don’t opt-in, all text people type in New Krytan would display normally. I don’t want more gimmicks in LA chat than there already are, if I can avoid it.

I’d like this as this little fun thing the game has, but it wouldn’t be something I would use regularly. Remember bork bork bork from gw1? You barely ever used that. But it was fun that it was there.

I do think however that ArenaNet should prioritize getting things like the cyrillic alphabet and traditional chinese into the game before doing something like this.
