Class Suggestion: "Blackguard"
So you would only be effective against your called target?
While I do applaud the semi uniqueness of the class mechanic, just calling your target seems a little weak and repetitive. I also say semi becuase it reminds me of a scaled down form of mesmer clones. Visually may be different but mechanically similar. Tbe clones function like the mark allowing other effects to be applied. This class seems to call for those effects to be seeded in more skills
I do like the idea of a blackguard but traditionally they are more fallen paladins. Paladins generally involve a diety. And fallen they have broken from their faith. Guardians in game rely on inner strength. Not sure how a blackguard fits in lore wise.
Well, as for being effective only against your called target; Not necessarily. As I stated, some skills could altso affect targets around the called one. This would make some interresting gameplay, and allow the Blackguard to, in certain situations, stike two or more targets at once.
As for the Profession name, it simply was the first to come to mind without mentioning the Death Knight of World of Warcraft. Just thought it fitting for a martial class with a touch of dark magic. In addition, a Blackguard is not necessarily a fallen Paladin, but can altso refeer to a mercenary. ^^
Lore-wise; True, haven’t really thought about that one yet. Then again, Tyria is littered with ruins of past cilivisations, and the Priory just might find some book on the combat arts of old.
Edit: Spelling, added content.

It just might get annoying to have to call every target you go after
