before I begin, yes I do in fact understand balancing classes is more of a priority, this is a discussion/suggestion thread so please be respectful of the thoughts and opinions of others.
(Some thoughts behind the idea)
There are a lot of cool armour and weapon skins in the game, but one thing I find a bit lacking is profession distinction. Not by game-play, but by appearance it often can be difficult to distinguish certain classes just by looking at them. I find myself often clicking on players just to say to myself, “oh, that’s a thief” and I really feel it takes a bit away from the game’s atmosphere and personal connection to one’s favourite class.
(Aquisition)
These items or bonuses should NOT be obtained in the same way as the current legendaries, considering how much of a painful grind that it is. I propose as an alternative to have specific ‘personal story’-esque missions which are unique to the profession, much more challenging (The kind to make Mad-King’s Clocktower look like child’s play), and only available after hitting level 80.
(Example mission)
These missions should take advantage of class mechanics for a more enjoyable experience. A mesmer mission for example, could require you to obtain an item by leaping across platforms Indiana Jones style while things fire at you that cause chilling effects, but once the object is obtained the place you must bring this object to is then closed off until you return the object requiring clever use of skills such as feedback (block projectiles), Null field (remove chill), and portal (warp past the blockade) all while being limited to the time on your portal ability in a single attempt.
(Reward’s Mechanics)
The item probably shouldn’t be an ‘item’ for a number of reasons. First off it shouldn’t replace current looks that people enjoy, only add to it, so you don’t have to pick between it and your awesome 500 ecto fractal backpack, you get the best of both worlds. Secondly, so you can not lose it, not even accidentally, I’ve heard enough horror stories of someone scrounging through their inventory only to unintentionally sell something without really noticing it, I myself lost the GW2 hat when I left it on a character I deleted.
Instead it should unlock a panel (or checkbox) on your hero’s tab that allows you to turn it on/off at will once you have completed all of your class missions.
(Example rewards)
Elementalist: ‘Wings’ that animate and change in style depending on your attunement which also fold in when weapons are sheathed. (Fire elemental wings for fire, etc.)
Engineer: All ‘kit’ skills when equipped have special attack sounds/effects, also toolbelt skills will be displayed on your belt. (hidden in WvW)
Mesmer: Faint image of your character trailing behind you while moving, while standing still has a slight ‘heat-wave’ effect.
Ranger: Legendary pets, need I say more?
While I am aware not all of these things are entirely realistic, may not even come out for at least a year if they did make it, but it would be awesome to add a little ‘flare’ to our classes based on our skill and dedication with said class rather than a massive money/time sink similar to regular legendaries.
Thoughts? Opinions? Feel free to discuss what you guys/gals think!
