Time is a river.
The door is ajar.
What Are Collectors?
In GW1, we had NPC’s out in the world that ‘collected’ certain items in exchange for weapons, armour, bags and other items.

But Haven’t We Already Got Karma Vendors That Do This?
Yup.
So What Would The Point Be?
To make use of the Grey Trophies we receive, other than vendor trash.
So What Could These Collector’s Offer?
Another source of crafting materials (for example, 5 Broken Lockpicks could be turned into a piece of Copper Ore, 5 Crumbling Bones could be turned into a Bone Chip, and 5 Globs of Globby Goo could be turned into Tiny Poison Sac).
Depending on the area and rarity of the output material, the Collector would ask for more of that material, as well as other materials alongside it.
I completely agree if only for the concept that mmo’s (all of them) simply need to stop including this vendor trash motif. It’s outdated, it’s laborious (isn’t there already enough inventory management to ‘constantly’ worry about in these games, without the further irritation and distraction of vendor trash?) and it has to be about my biggest gripe, across the board, with mmo’s.
In the least — in the least — if there has to remain this junk item concept, then make those items have some value, besides a few measly coins, which aren’t worth even the effort of clicking Sell Junk (and as they did in GW1) by bringing back some form of Collectors for those items.
As it stands, level crafting alongside your toon’s leveling is already a nightmare (unless you have stores of materials from previously played toons) and the OP’s idea could greatly alleviate that endless grind for enough crafting materials to co-level crafting alongside any given toon.
By the Six, how did you find this suggestion?!
Thanks for the feedback anyhows
I think the whole vendor trash thing is to do with tangible rewards. I mean, you kill a mob, and you get XP. That’s great, but people like the loot as well, and you can’t go putting blues and greens every drop. Thus, vendor trash. I don’t think most people feel too bitter if they get trash from a mob it took them 2 seconds to beat.
It’s when you get blues from the big events that really takes the mickey.

I’m glad he or she did…. cause its freakin genius.
It would make it so much more fun to craft alongside your character’s level. Which is do disappointing when you actually try to do.
By the Six, how did you find this suggestion?!
Hahahahaha. By the Six. Made my day.
