“Obtaining a legendary should be done through legendary feats…
Not luck and credit cards.”
There’s undoubtedly some other topics already posted about this, I doubt I’m the first one to come up with this idea. I was wondering if Combat Healer (or No One Left Behind, either way, 1000 revives) could possibly be made into something other than just another title to wear.
My idea was that if, say, it increased your efficacy in the field based on your effective level, or the the zone you were down-levelled to. To be a bit more specific (and the below examples are with a Combat Healer title @ L80) :
I see this as an incremental way of awarding someone with the title already (and the entity they’re reviving), instead of it being just words above someone’s head.
So I’m unsure of the mechanics of how all this would work, but I thought I’d throw my idea out there and see if it could be played with and adapted to the way we revive people in the field as it is now. Quicker revives means getting people back on their feet faster, after all you’ve had to do it at least 1000 times to be any good at it. Another reason it would be “so glad to see them”.
Cheers.
Too many titles have NOTHING to give us, this needs to change.
The combat healer title is a good example of this fact, we receive nothing for great feats.
Obviously, not all of them will have benefits, but take Gw1 for instance, all the non-generic titles in that one gave you a benefit, Norn slayer gave HP in norn areas, Asuran title gave you energy in asuran areas… etc etc.
Disagree: titles should not be a route to character optimization. It would add to power creep and power discrepancy between players and encourage players to refuse groups to others based on their displayed title. Players should not feel compelled to complete boring achievements in order to be competitive.
Also: even if titles were going to grant mechanical benefits, double revive speed is OP. The 6-rune set bonus that increases revive speed is only 10%.
You obviously didn’t play Gw1 then – The titles were in line and didn’t offer anything to anyone enough to say “you cant come to our party”
The titles are a personal goal, and the reward would be the effort you put into it… IF this is NOT the case, then titles are a waste of time and should be removed from the game.
Who cares if you have resurrected 1000’s of players, killed loads of different monsters or players, raided every dungeon, or saved 200 gold in your bank.. etc.. if you have nothing to show for it?
Waste of time entirely.
The GW1 title structure and usefulness of the EotN expansion is more what I was alluding to here. Each time you made it so far within a certain alliance/group of people, as exampled above, you’d get a certain benefit from it, and made getting the title and ranking from it all the more worthwhile. Sure there was some segregation among the players, albeit briefly, but it may have only been for a couple of days while the new player got up to speed and earned the necessary title to be effective. In Nightfall, Lightbringer comes to mind here.
Here it’s just another title with nothing being more effective about it than someone being able to read it.
In response to Felbryn, you mustn’t have seen too many people with the Combat Healer title shown then. I see about half my map’s population adorned with the title, as if it were some badge of honour. I’m not saying that someone has to wear the title to be accepted into any group because of what they’ve accomplished next to some new L80 next to them who probably has about half the max amount. The effectiveness is intended to be a bonus, nothing more.
Most people I’ve seen with this title already weren’t even shooting for it, it just came to them in the course of natural play. As for the mechanics of it (where it works, ie. dungeons, general PvE, etc.) would obviously still have to be hashed out. It just irks me the idea of having so many titles to be able to wear and having none of them with any effectiveness in the game… it’s all about vanity.
Nightfall also included titles….
All of us “Lightbringers” or “Sunspears” out there will know what I mean by this.

Ergh ,youre the one that absolutely must have not played GW1…
Lightbringer Title
Sunspear Title
The Racial Titlres from EotN
They all were titles, that improved your characters and were a reason, why you couldnÄt get into groups, which lead to player elitism, if you hadn’ just maxed that title out to be as most effecient as possible for the group
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Lightbringer_rank
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Lightbringer
This title increased the maximum damage of specific PvE only skills towards specific enemies in the high end content elite areas like the Gate of Torment…
Having it maxed out, made alot alot of missions in GW1 alot easier and having that title maxed was a requirance for anybody, who wanted to do these missions in Hard Mode… so just be quite when you have absolutely no clues about what you are talking, as it seems…
Same goes for racial titles, which all improved something for characters, be it maximum health, maximum energy, heal when dealing damage vs. destroyers, more defense/adrenaline gain, so each made it somehow for the gamer easier and they all were abused by stupid elitist to decide, if someone could get into their groups, or not and if you have had not the wished title on max – kiss my butt..instant kick!

Titles should never ever again give any advanatages to players, which promotes only, that players with more time get advantages and lead only into bad player elitism behaviours.
GW2 needs more meaningful impactful titles, that sound awesome for something that we have done successfully in the game, interesting titles with tasks behind them to fulfill, that are no grind, but instead challenging tasks, that aren’t too hard in regard of just frustrating the players for the sake of frustrating them, but also not so super easy, that you can receive them blindly brain afk also by repeating and and the same things over and over again only….

Once you earned a title, it should add some cosmetical rewards for the player.
Every Title earned should reward the player with folowing cosmetical things:
There’s so much more cosmetical stuff that Anet could do with titles instead of adding nonsensical power creep to titles…
Tittles absolutely should never define, how efficient a character is in the game.
Hmm… failed to quote…
Orpheal has good ideas when it comes to:
Hairstyles
Finishers
Town clothes
Dances
Cultural armour
Those things would be cool as rewards for titles:)
