I think GW2 would greatly benefit from borrowing the aiming/telegraph system of Wildstar. There’s no shame in adopting a superior system. Tab targeting is skillless in a game that is built upon “skill based action combat”.

An example would be if I were playing one of my ranged classes in WvW I can be standing facing a zerg and press tab and have no idea where my target is. As long as I’m facing in a 180 degree arc in his direction I can press any ranged attack and it will fire directly at him.

The Wildstar combat mechanic is superior because you don’t get free hits just by tab targeting someone. The only benefit of targeting in Wildstar is to see the enemies health bar. All attacks are aimed by the player not by the game. For instance on a ranger if I were to press my 1 key it would fire arrows in a straight line from my character hitting the first enemy they come in contact with. There is a similar system in place in GW2 where projectiles will hit the first player in contact except you have to have someone targeted so they won’t fire straight in front of you. Having telegraph fields allows so much strategy rather than just press tab then attack. You can set up lanes with overlapping fire. It would bring so much to WvW.

Also it would bring a lot to melee. Right now in WvW ground targeted AOE is king. But with the telegraph system packs of melee infantry could make pushes without having to have a specific target. Sweeping their weapons and pushing lines back the way it’s supposed to be.

I have a lot of time invested in GW2 and I want to keep playing it. Right now I see Wildstar’s combat system to be superior to GW2 on every level. There is no shame in evolution. I highly doubt anyone would criticize it as “copying”. After all they are borrowing a lot of GW2 features for their game.

For anyone not familiar with the Wildstar aiming system here is a video.
