Ok let me just start off by saying that there’s always two sides to an argument, such as the night capping which AN wont do anything about because they view it as a perfectly working system, or the best they can do to please all their paying customers.
Some people think commanders in general are a mistake, some dont. I personally think it isnt at the minute, but it will do eventually and its going to be something AN needs to look at very seriously. But hey, you may disagree

Theres a lot of negative and positives about commanders atm and I think people are overreacting for the wrong reasons. Eventually 100g is not going to be viewed as a lot of money…its inevitable so I pretty such something will eventually be done to prevent there being a map with 20 commanders running around.

Its not a problem at the minute because
1. Commanders usually are in a guild which is in an alliance or is close with another guild. So even though 2 guilds have a commander each, they can agree for one person to switch theirs off.
2.The game is still young and 100g is a lot.

Its been suggested that commanders should be elected by the server, which isn’t a completely original idea, but neither is capture the castle lets face it.

I think to appease those who have actually spent £500 or so on commander, you can’t completely revamp it. I suggest, along with others, to have an election system and to give those in power extra control over the map they are in, ie to manage who is allowed their commander icon turned on in the map and who isnt. But you can only elect those who current have a commander badge and have paid their 100g. Obviously no idea is perfect and there would be flaws but lets face it, WvW isnt perfect, even though its raised the bar of organised PvP to an all new high.

The election idea has worked in other games, so theres so reason it cant work in what must be the next Gen game of MMOs.

I’d also like to see not just one person elected, but several for different positions.
Something along the lines of: The General, followed by 2 field marshalls follow by 6 War councillers…giving other guilds a chance.
