Commander Rate System
way too easy to abuse and/or grief.
way too easy to abuse and/or grief.
Please do give the details and situations you can think of to abuse / grief so i can refine the idea more.
Joe Bob from guild [ABC] gets all his follow guildies to rate him the best … even though everyone outside the guild knows he sucks.
Billy Ray from guild [XYZ] is really good commander on Server A, server B gets tired of getting its kitten handed to them by this commander so sends a couple spies to server A and spams bad ratings on to Billy Ray. People see Billy Ray’s rating go down and stop following him. Server B begins winning now.
Sarah from [HIJ] makes an honest mistake, but some noob is so upset they go on a campaign to do everything they can to ruin Sarah’s rating, including getting his guildies to join in on the harassment.
Just a few ideas off the top of my head. Any in game rating is just a popularity contest and subject to trolls.
Really, it is quite easy to see if a Commander is bad just from the first battle.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
- Commander rating is such a nice idea ( because many kids buy title just to have fun so people follow them)
- PvP public score at mists to check out good players.
commander’s come up with the plan, its those who following do the work along with the commander, could have a squad of numpty’s, commander plans a sneak attack on the wall and got 10 ppl all auto attacking gate close by and getting orange swords up, these 10 numpty’s just totaly screwed this commanders plans and then commander gets bad rateing for this attack an no fault of his own, bad idea imo
i recently got my commander badge and OMFG there are alot of incompetent players who drive you insane, dont join TS and dont even read chat, cant build seige and cant have a brain cell to share between them
[FLEE] Gandara [PUK]
Here’s a better idea… remove the commander tag and implement a rank system based off of a player’s experience in WvW. Any system based around the commander tag is flawed because the tag is obtained with 100g, which is nothing nowadays. If in a proposed new system the commander tag still exists it needs to be obtained through vast amounts of WvW such that everyone on your server would already know who you are before you even get the tag.

So another popularity contest?
This would be almost as bad as the current dirty T1 tactic of mass-reporting any enemy commanders the enemy servers see.
Step 1) recruit on enemy server
Step 2) mass-downvote said commander.

LOL, this is ridiculous, what if the other server uses superior tactics, what if they get lucky, what if there is not many online to command, what if nobody listens, what if the commander has RL issues to contend with, what if the other server hacks, what if the the commander does everything right and odds are in their favor but the advance loses because their siege went down too early or the other server got reinforcements at the last time or if the third server ends up double-teaming?
There are plenty of reasons why an advance could go wrong and judging a book by the cover is terrible, you cannot judge from one battle…. You expect people to get everything right the first time?
How about just having an up vote and no down vote. That way only the good commanders will get up voted. And, no one feels bad for getting down voted.
Even better yet, commanders with squads that complete objectives auto updates their rankings.

You mean like the fake ‘like’ system Facebook or whatever social monstrosity it is? How does that stop a big guild with an okay commander from having a better rating from a great commander from a smaller guild? Most guildies will vote for their own, its human nature to support ‘family’ first.
Auto update based on what? Being on a lower tier server and PvDooring a bunch of objectives at night would auto reward and rate you highly while a T1 commander who has to work his/her butt off to capture anything because there is always opposition and would have a lower rating because they essentially can’t farm for rating like the lower tier guy could?
Personally I like the system as it is. If you have a commander icon and you’re a bad commander, we tell you to turn it off so that better commanders may lead. If they refuse, we learn to ignore them and they eventually turn of their icon anyway. We know who the good and bad commanders are. We don’t a system that’s prone to exploitation to tell us that.

Yeah, that makes sense. Sorry I didn’t think about it that much.
i got it for the larger player icon in PvE world. Guild members had a difficult time finding me on the same map, i got it to stand out for them. I might stink at wvw/pvp, and probably most of the pve stuff, but if my guild does not have to hammer me with location issues (where are you?). i had 100 gold to waste at the time, so i bought it.
i probably don’t deserve it, sure, but then give me back my 100 gold. i noticed that since getting the icon, i have been shunned from parties more often than before. also, the random harassment in game is a bit annoying, because the titles turned off, but the buff icon above the utility skill area is still visible, apparently.
disband your squad and the icon goes away.

No, let me rephrase what I was suggesting for you:
“If in a proposed new system the commander tag still exists it needs to be obtained through vast amounts of WvW such that everyone on your server would already know who you are before you even get the tag.”
In other words, leading up to the acquisition of the tag you would have to be WvW’ing so much that everyone on your server would already recognize you.

But now this is a moot point because they announced today that they will be adding ranks. Hopefully this will get rid of credit card commanders with their 1000 achievement points and bloated egos.
