Officer / Warden – [GC] Golden Company X I I I

Just going to get straight to the question, who thinks the Commander title should have been an EARNED achievement and not a BOUGHT book?
Only reason why I’m thinking this is Commander title just, to me, seems to just show off that one had money to spend. A lot of Commanders, that I’ve seen on my server as well as other servers, really do not know what the hell to do, let alone LEAD. Commanders Compendium should have been a gift of some sort to players who excel in different aspects of WvW. Such as; using siege weapons, taking out packed Dolyak’s, leading a squad (idea of this explained below) and everything else WvW has to offer.
Just an idea to throw in:
Squads should have came in two forms (1) Non-permanent Squads and (2) Permanent Squads.
(1) Non-permanent squads can be made just by going into WvW, whoever created a Non-perm Squad is designated leader. Once the leader leaves, the squad is disbanded.
(2) Permanent Squads can only be made by Commanders. This can just be used by Commanders to recruit those they like most in WvW, either within their guild or not, and always keep in touch with those that work well together.
If this gets implemented, I’m happy to get refunded my 100g because I actually regret spending that much on it. I mean, I do WvW but not as hardcore as some, hence I feel like I do not deserve the honour of running around as a Commander anymore.
Any other ideas, thoughts, criticism are all welcome. Just want to know what people really think about Commanders title.
there wouldnt really be a way to implement a system to judge who actually deserves to be a commander other than maybe a vote system or something. maybe even a charter that you have to get players to sign but then people would just bribe others to sign it.
otherwise its like this, some commanders are idiots we know, dont follow those ones. if you or your server follow a commander that doesnt know how to play very well that makes you just as bad as them.
I think its a non-issue.
Guilds roll together regardless of whether someone has a tag or not, and non-guilded players can pickup on who are the good leaders and who are the bad leaders in the first week of WvW play.
Sudden thought. What happens when every Tom, Richard and Harry with a spare bit of gold gets a badge and we have loads of them on the map purely for the sake of having a map icon?

That is exactly my point… eventually everyone is going to get a Commanders title, which means sooner or later it will just mean absolutely nothing. I just think ArenaNet should just implement a system that replacing the current Commander title, instead of it being purchased, have it achieved. Even though there are Commanders out there that are GOOD at leading and know what to do in WvW, it’ll be much harder in the future to separate Commanders who are actually GOOD at WvW and those that just had money to spend. The later is what will stick out the most, and therefore have people not even listen to Commanders.
I was just thinking similar to how one obtained the God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals (GWAMM) title in Guild Wars 1. In GW1, to get GWAMM, you needed to max out 30 different titles, including all its tiers. Why not have the same for WvW? Or a similar idea…?
Now, under the WvW achievement tab by pressing H in-game… I see that there are 16 achievements possible. Why not have those that want Commanders title max them all out? This would obviously take time but I’m sure there are a few people who have already maxed it out. This will just give a personal achievement to those who do WvW on a regular basis, or even hardcore. Now, some may think this gives some sort of “entitlement/elitist” attitude… well, you’ll get these people regardless, so just deal with it. I don’t mind putting up with someone like that in WvW if it means getting something done, and face it, ArenaNet can’t control this with or without this implementation.
Sometimes I venture into WvW alone, I’d like to at least know what to do… like, Oh, hey there is a Commander, I’ll join him/her and the zerg he/she is in. Instead of trying to help but not really doing much (which I see a lot on WvW).
Obviously, there will still be groups and such that have friends and guilds to play with, this wont ruin that aspect of WvW.
