In this topic I would like to discuss the idea of extending the functionality of the commander title to community events (events hosted by the players them selves). I know some people feel the commander title is annoying, or lacks functionality in WvW; that is NOT what this topic is about. So please keep things on topic.

The commander title allows you to display a tag that is visible on the map, even in towns and outposts for everyone to see. And that can be VERY useful when people want to host events. Because finding and following the event host is always a bit of an issue, especially now that we have races that are a lot taller than other races.

In the past (I’m talking about GW1 here) hosting a community event was always a bit tricky, since you were always limited to a rather small party size. And especially when hosting very large community events, that means a lot of communication with co-hosts and event-staff. Being able to create much larger squads while in town could be very useful as well, especially for this sort of communication (and being able to see where everyone is).

Lastly, being able to use the commander rally points in towns and outposts could help a lot in sending event-staff across the map quickly, and making sure everyone is in position. This sort of functionality could easily be enabled, although it would help if the player was able to choose what the commander icon looked like. A separate “event-host” icon for example, would prevent confusion.

Any other ideas?

Also a commander tag for guildd will be fine only ur squad can see it actually, anyway on wvw i wish they add some special buff to the title or change the color to set up more tactics commander, like commander of defense and other for attak and others.

If it’s made so only your squad can see it they will have to make the squad much bigger than what it is now (50 I think) that isn’t enough for community events at all or for large guilds.
The icon/hat over the commander should be changeable.
Join squad and be able to rally to the commander in pve areas is a good idea.
(Unfortunately this will be miss used as so may have commander and have effect on the wp money sink, unless people will have to pay to rally)

I didn’t mean points that allow you to respawn on the commander. I meant the rally-flags that can be placed on the map. The commander is able to place different kinds of flags, like places to defend or attack. For community events, having these icons available in town would be very helpful. Only your squad would see them, but you could add all your event staff to the squad, and direct them to various spots that way. The commander title has the potential to be an excellent tool for hosting large scale community events.

(and when I mean event staff, I mean other players that assist the event-host in distributing party items, and entertain the crowds.)
