Something I noticed a good while ago, and hoping in vain to see added, is a certain medium armor set that is by now restricted only to PvP and a few specific armor parts that are available only through the use of choosing rewards carefully in the personal story.

And that set would be the _ Commando _ set.

For now the only parts of it available are the coat, the leggings, and the shoulder armor. This by itself is great, but the problem here is that you are required to get them from the personal story, and even then you don’t get all of them.

Which still means we lack the gloves and boots (which are barely visible anyway) and, especially, the hat. There is a personal story reward with its name, but on medium armor, it is actually a pirate mask skin rather than the intended hat.

It is really sad to see this downright beautiful skin go to waste, and I am actually rather close to simply running an alt for that armor since my main is completely unable to get it now that I have finished the personal story.

Ugh…another “trench coat” armor. I really do not understand why most of the medium armor chest pieces show up as trench coats. I would rather see more variety that includes chain mail intertwined with great looking leather (which is also lack luster as far as I can see).

I really like your point, so +1 to that. But on the whole, this is one trenchcoat armor that I would love to have. Plus, it’s the only time they tried putting something like western style gear in, with that look, and I always dug that in steampunky settings like in Guild Wars 2.

Useless fact: Did you know chainmail armors apparently used to be around as heavy as plate armors?

Adding my +1 to this. I love the Commando set, and not being able to get the rest (or have my lost shoulders restored) sucks.

I believe the hat is misclassed in the sPvP wardrobe as stalwart. I was able to get the commando hat through the personal storyline but it was just a bandit mask. Makes me wonder if the hat is supposed to be in the game but is under the wrong name in the item database.

I’m currently wearing the commanders coat (available from level 77 personal story). I would love to have the rest available from PvE

I’ve begged them to add this to the game in some form months ago.. Still hoping it will happen.

I would love to get that armor.

Is there any other way to get the commando pants for PvE if you didnt take them during your personal Story Quest? Any way at all?

This is true of a handful of armor sets across all tiers – some of the skins from those sets are available during personal storyline, but never a complete set.

It’s definitely something that should be fixed. There’s no reason to limit these exclusively to sPvP – why waste art assets on a single corner of the game?

The Commando and Stalwart are armors I would like THE FULL set in PvE, seems a bit silly to exclude them. +1, add em in

Where do you get the shoulders?

Absolutely for this, I use this armour for my Charr Engineer as it’s perfect engineer style with all the pouches to keep all his gadgets in. I really want at least the hat to go with it, as medium armour is seriously lacking in GOOD headgear at present, in my opinion. (Only 2 I like are the pirate hat, and the Duelist hood). I also agree that an alternative look to trench coats would be nice, or at least model them better for Charr. Almost none of them have tail holes so on a char the tail just clips through them.

i just want the pants, but yes i agree, it’d be nice to have all the options.

While the set is obtainable from story missions, the one way of obtaining it is too risky as most players either pick a different reward or end up selling or destroying it. even if they player does manage to keep hold of it, they only seem to get only 1 of each piece (the trousers work so well with many of my other sets).

hopefully, with the new frost and fire we should hopefully see a way to get the set.

You can now get this set through WvW, and even better, it’s just a skin which can be applied to any existing set without the need for a transmutation stone. It’s pretty cheap on a per-piece basis too.
To get these skins, go to your Borderlands, head directly south from the spawn point and talk to the “Armor Master [Armorsmith]”.
The skins are in the very last Buy tab.

Sorry, but I don’t see the commando set there.

It’s not explicitly called Commando, but each of the pieces displayed in the OP’s post are available through this means.

I’ve checked on a level 80, and the only medium armor skins available in the last tab from Armor Master is:

Supple Leather (Rogue armor, found in a ton of places)
Rawhide (basically starter armor)
Warden (available as karma armor around level 50 onwards)
Conquest (same as Conquest which is normal karma armor found in Orr)

The exotic armor Armor Master sells (which applies to all of them) is Invader’s Rawhide, which is unique to WvW (known in PvP as PvP Mist Walker), but it’s not Commando’s armor. Also, Commando chest will clip a bit on female norn bodies, haven’t checked with other norns. It’s fine on human female though.

So nope, Commando (and only some parts of it) is still exclusive to story reward in PvE.

The last time I finished the story on a medium character, it seems like they updated the commando helm with the longer bandana mask. I was really hoping that they’d include/fix for the Stalwart set as well (especially the helm). And sadly, the WvW vendors no longer sell the variety of armours (presumably because, as the above post mentioned, they’re already available to PvE through other means). I know it’s not the biggest of concerns, but it’s still a quality of life issue for players (no one can really complain about variety, right?) so please make it happen, ANet!

So, do we have the armor yet??

Probably not. They still haven’t put out the guild shoulder armor I really want.

The Banded Pauldrons from PVE looks the same but it isnt. Those Pauldrons also clip with the armor I’m wearing but the Guild Shoulders dont.

And I even offered them $20 to get that armor out in PVE. Anet do you want my money or not? I keep throwing bills at the monitor but you guys keep spitting it back at me

yeah..thats kibda the whole point..the armor is not complete and only for personal story.. qe want it to be complete and able to get it by other ways…rolling a new alt for an armor is just..silly and its in a very late chapter.

I was doing some early personal story on a human and one of the NPC’s are wearing the coat, and I thought it was really cool. And now I see that I can’t get it on my main, and that makes me sad! Please Anet! Put it in the game!

Ya, I got it in personal story and actually scrapped it because i thought I’d be able to get it later. I considered keeping it cause I thought it looked nice but didn’t have much invent space at the time.
Kinda annoys me because it’s like punishing someone for being new since I didn’t know it’d only be available in pvp otherwise… and I don’t pvp… so my main character that i invested all my time in has no possible way to get this armor -.-
At least if it has to be a pvp reward can’t they at least let you use the skin for pve or have a collection of story skins that you can get like the zenith skins, so your not left feeling stupid later on?
If they made pvp reward skins available for pve I’d actually have incentive to try pvp =x
