Commending
I’m not sure if Anet can or will implement this, but I really like this idea. All too often in games negative reinforcement is used to discourage certain behaviour but it is not very often that positive reinforcement is used, beyond the usual xp and loot rewards.
This could help in all sorts of ways. Just picture it, if you see a player with the commander symbol, you can right click his portrait and see how many Leadership commendations he has got. If he has none you can assume he is either a new commander or someone with more gold than sense.
I’m not sure I would have a ‘Giving Person’ option, as that could be open for scroungers to abuse, but I like the teacher and leader options. The system would have to be quick to commend and easy to view commendations. To commend you would right click, select the commend option, then select the commendation type to finish. Then to view you’d simply right click and select view player stats (which I think would be a nice addition also). In the stats you would see what commendations they have.
The only issue with adding comments would be storage and bandwidth, especially if a player has a lot of them. So a simple points system would suffice I reckon, and would help people to pick out good players and also to give people a quick way to thank others for their help.
You could take things even further by implementing this system into a LFG tool. For example, you could filter players by the amount of Dungeon or WvW commendations they have. Allowing people to find the best players, which have been voted as good by other players, not because they have grinded the glory points or wearing the best armour. What better way to show people how good they are than by people recommending them? It would also help to build friendly helpful communities, and encourage people to help others and play well, because these commendations would potentially help you to get picked for teams more often. There’s also the sense of satisfaction that people found you helpful or a good leader or team player.
Anyway, good idea. +1 from me.
