Dear ArenaNet,

I’d like to say I strongly oppose the move that ArenaNet has made towards disabling the creation of replies towards Guild recruiting threads on the Guild recruitment board. What possible use could this have? In the old setup we could have people who had joined us be welcomed by community members, as well as have them post their experiences in the Guild thus far which acted as a great way to show the GW2 community that a certain Guild is informative, communicational, active and therefore worthwhile checking out.

This is meaningful interaction that leads to the building of a community sense, NOT spam. If your moderators are too lazy to actively counter spam by removing it + warning the posters who make such topics/replies a meaningful system to replace it does not consitute to just annihilate everyone’s ability to interact on a board.

I can already predict what’s going to happen in the new setup: Where we’re effectivevly forced to repost the recruiting topic once a week to make sure that at least some people who aren’t in a Guild yet will notice it.

I would say it is quite a logical move.
Having open threads can/will lead to loads of flaming and stuff if someone does not like the guild that is advertising, and that would require even more moderators and such on the forums, which would cost money and resources.

Yeah they’ve done this out of necessity.
With the way the forums work any topic that is posted in is bumped to the top of it’s respective category. If you could reply to recruitment posts a guild could just have people constantly replying to make sure they stay up the top, which would be unfair on anyone else who was being pushed to the bottom and not being noticed. This way it functions fairly.

@FlamingFoxx.1305:

One could also say that this new system is a way of punishing Guilds who put effort into recruiting people, making these folks feel at home and then making sure that they reply to the Guild recruiting topic to convey their positive experiences towards the GW2 community as a whole, making sure other people notice Guilds that may be to your liking. [CC] never bumped our post with meaningless replies, nearly every single reply in there was unique and made by a new person we recruited.

And if people do bump topics in that typical lazy BUMP manner it’s a moderator’s job to act on it. This new system is a lazy easy way out for ArenaNet because they don’t have to keep tabs on anything.

As a company that made a game that resolves around social elements you should encourage social interaction, not dumb it down.

This kills the ability of guilds to show the personality and interaction of the members. It also has made it difficult for anyone to post positive feedback on a guild’s recruitment page. Yes, there were post bumps made in this fashion, but at least they were interesting bumps that provided good information to the people looking for a guild.

As it stands now the moderators have not given any indication of who can post recruitment threads, how many times they can be posted, whether more than one person can make posts about the same guild — there are no guidelines whatsoever. It’s not a good change.

However, I do like that they’ve split guild recruitment and looking for guild posts into separate sub forums.

You’ll get no argument from me there, it’s a good change.

Locking people, who are interested in a certain Guild and want to post a reply to the recruitment thread requesting for more information, out of the opportunity to indeed post such a reply isn’t however.

I don’t think, whoever thought up this idea, was completely awake when he/she thought it up. Whoever it is, he/she probably has no experience with running a community or recruiting people and as such did not consider the consequences of this change.
