I don’t understand what’s wrong.
Every class should have one ability, in the case of Engineers they have to be protected for 15s (adjust the casting time to your own taste, was only an example) to use their skill.
Thieves can sneak into a tower but ony for 30s (adjust also here), boosting keep champs won’t effect zergs cause it will take them some seconds more to wipe the champs, but will nerf (or make extremely diffcult) the ability of a 5 thieves to ninja a tower.
Same with every other class, now i’m not into balancing but could be something useful like those two abilities.
P.S. ofc more engies =\ wall down, they will take only 50%\30% idk% of the wall hp

If specific classes get specific abilities people will require specific classes to do specific stuff because of their specific class-ability.

Interesting idea but with your example you make holding a tower impossible:
Sneak: allows you to sneak into a tower, 3s cast time, 15s skill time, 5min recharge
at 50 pts becomes a 30s time window in wich you can enter a tower (only towers not keeps\ stonemist)
Explanation:
- send in a mesmer as a scout in every Tower
- when the enemy conquer the Tower let the scout die
- after the buff run off send in 3 thieves with that abillity
- revive mesmer and let him portal the zerg in
- congratulation to your new tower
So its absolut impossible to loose an tower more then 5 min, at least if you dont want to leave a complete group behind in every tower.

But by doing that, as you said, specific classes will fulfill specific roles on the battlefield: basically what they do right now.
So, my idea could be wrong (obviously imho) on paper due to balancing issues and whatnot, but i’m sure that implementing class abilities would make wvw more tactical.

yeh i understand that.
Obviously you need to tune and balance the whole thing, so what you wrote couldn’t happen.
On a side note, leaving behind a man or two i think will reduce the size of a zerg, so more small roaming and less zergs\lag spikes

IMHO skills like Warrior can carry 1 additional point of supplies due to hist imba strength, Engineer being able to repair 1% more efficient due to his engineering skills or guardian receiving 1% less dmg from champions (without spending any WvW points ofv) would be ok, but what you suggest is very OP and will most likely destroy the WvW concept as it is, since rezing mesmers with thieves as mentioned earlier will become very common tactic.
Seems to me you are solo roamer thief who is looking for something new. I don’t blame you since thieves are pathetic in 1v1 WvW and basically you can only noobstomp, but try rolling other character or go full berserk SB and stick with your zerg group so there is some use of you rather then reworking WvW.
