Control customisation expectations
I… honestly have no idea what you’re asking for. You say “customizing control-clicking and shift clicking…?” You call them annoying, so it seems you want them removed, but there are very few actions that use control or shift—mainly linking items in chat. Then again, you’re talking about not having a special mouse or large hands, which implies the opposite, that you want something that would provide more actions (with control and shift?) If that’s the case, I’m further unsure as to whether you mean clicking—which is a term usually reserved for mouse actions, and might imply clicking on things—or pressing keys on the keyboard, which would just be straight-up actions.
I’m not saying your idea is bad… I’m saying I don’t have a clue what it is.
markisbeest is talking about the fact of pinging your skills while holding down Ctrl or Shift. In Guild Wars 1 it would use the skill at the same time as pinging it rather than just pinging skill and doing nothing.
I too have no idea what he is asking for.
Mouseclicking each skill in combat is a terrible way to play and why would you need to cntrl/shift click any of those in a fight. It’s not like there is an alternative use on the skills when control/shift clicking.
I don’t know about control+keybinds because I haven’t tried, but I know shift+keybind works.
If you shiftclick a skill, a link to the skill will appear in your chatbar and open up your chat, now I understand people don’t often hold shift while clicking skills, but if you are on a VoIP program you might use it as a push to talk key.
The same goes for Ctrl-clicking, this is however less impairing for yourself, since you only spam the chat with your skills, however the skills don’t activate when you do this.
I play how I want to, and I want to play by clicking skills 6-10 with my mouse, while using my keyboard for the others. I’m just saying that you could quite reasonably expect to be able to change the ctrl-click to ping, or shift-click to link functions in the option menu, but you can’t.
That’s why I’m suggesting to implement the option to rebind these.

Honestly, I don’t think it’s Anet’s responsibility to worry about what keys are used by 3rd party programs while you’re playing.
If your push to talk button is bound to Shift of CTRL, then first that’s a stupid place to put it because they two keys that are often used by games and windows itself.
And second Bind your push to talk to some other key. As I said, it’s not Anet’s problem.

Of course it isn’t Anet’s problem what keys third party programs use, they should however worry about what people like about their game, for example the option to customise the use of certain key combinations.
If you reason like you just did, it’s not Anet’s problem to worry about whether you are happy with their content.
And besides, Ctrl is also used in-game to watch for enemies, which I personally sometimes do when I am using skills.
And yeah, Ctrl is often used in games, as a default key for things. So what, it’s my preference to use it as push to talk key, in other games I play, I generally was able to rebind the function of Ctrl to another key, so I’ve had no trouble so far. Being able to change everything to my preference is a big plus for me when playing a game and for pc-gaming in general.
