After you have mastered a craft, why do you always have to change between them all?

Maybe there should be an option once a craft is mastered, or even if you maxed out all, and have the Master Craftsman title, that you do not have to switch back and forth wasting 40 silver.

You do realise that “wasting” 40 Silver to switch between maxed profession is kind of the point? It’s a Gold Sink.

If you don’t like it, use another character to do that craft.

My point is when you become a master at a craft, it’s not like all of a sudden you forget how to make something. So in game, you all of a sudden are making wonderful jewels with huge power ups, but then all of a sudden you started to tinker in tailoring , got amnesia and lost all your skill unless you paid 40 silver.

Makes no sense at all. It needs to be changed as an incentive of hitting level 400 for a craft.

But to switch you have to pay 40 silver. Should be an incentive to max out your crafting.

It’s really suppose to be a character development decision — pick two crafting professions. The decision is suppose to be meaningful.

I think this is something ANet did right. They give you an option to change your mind, and then change it back. The only penalty is in-game currency. Even that penalty is low at 40s for max tier. So your decision has consequences but not earth shattering ones (which is good).

Since crafting is not gated by player level, you can easily make alts and level them to crafting 400 with no additional effort over doing all crafting on one toon. In addition you’d get XP which is probably useful to your alts.

IMHO, the crafting implementation is not really in the same league with all the other legitimate ‘bad’ things in GW2.

Part of me thinks that someone in ANet was thinking “hey, wanna see something funny? Watch this…”

Exactly what I was thinking, I’m not switching I made a third toon.

I like to think of it as a licensing/apprentice fee.

Whenever you choose another craft, you have to pay a licensing fee so that you can register yourself as craftsman as a part of a Crafter’s Union. Or something. Or you become the apprentice of the Master Craftsperson for that fee.

As for forgetting it, the Council of Elders has set a rule where you can only hold any two licenses at one time to stop any individual from monopolizing the crafting market.

Makes sense. I just hate changing back and forth.

Maybe there could at least be a benefit of getting a half off (or even cheaper) switching fee to only 20 silver once one has achieved Master Crafter status?

I feel that this idea is silly….especially since we got 5 character slots with the game.

Make 3 alts and divide the other 6 crafting disciplines between them. Instead of paying 40s to switch to a different crafting discipline, go to the character selection screen and switch characters.

I laid mine out this way:

Elementalist: Tailor & Artificer
Guardian: Armorsmith & Weaponsmith
Ranger: Leatherworking & Huntsman
Mesmer: Jeweler & Chef

For the most part, the 2 crafting disciplines chosen for a character fit them well as far as the armor they wear and the weapon(s) they use. As for Jeweler and Chef, those two are disciplines that ALL character professions can use, so putting them on the same character also makes sense.

Do what you want, but to me, you shouldn’t be paying the 40s to switch disciplines anyway. Park your alts by the crafting station and when you log in, you don’t even have to move…unless of course you want to play them and not just use them for crafting.

think of the fee as you dot have room in your pockets for tools for more than 2 crafting professions so each time you want to swap, you have to buy new tools and there wont be room for those in your pockets so you have to throw out the tools of one of the crafts you have, thus if you want to do that one again, you have to buy new tools again

I pay the 40 silver just fine. It’s not like it’s hard to make money in the game.

0.78 USD = 1 gold.

A homeless person in any ally behind a liquor store can purchase alcohol for minors at a $5 markup. If a homeless person can make 6.4g in 5 minutes, then you can too.
