Crafting: Unique Skins
Getting any crafting skill from 1 – 400 isn’t a hard task, If this was implemented these unique skins would be dumped on the TP causing the items to be ‘not so unique’.

Personally I was hoping for some sort of ability to customize skins through crafting, but as it stands now I don’t think that will ever be implemented. When it comes to unique skins and crafting excitement, I’m hoping that the lift to 500 and the time gated crafting of ascended gear there will give crafters some interesting stuff to do, if reaching 500 will prove hard enough so that non-crafters won’t get there in a day. And I do think some crafting skins are unique, though most of them aren’t very special.

No, it’s not a hard task, but it can be an expensive one and not a very rewarding one either if you’re already level 80 when you do it. Anet is rolling out the 400 to 500 levels to crafting soon where some of the gear can only be crafted once a day. This same method could be applied to the unique skins. I’m only making the suggestion that the lower levels are given more meaning with the addition of unique skins (the game could use more, ESPECIALLY at lower levels), if it was considered or implemented, Anet would decide just how they wanted to do it. I just think if done right it would be a great improvement.
I would like to see more skins available for crafting, but I also do not feel that they are so much lacking uniqueness. Regardless of how unique the skin is, people will still sell them on the market so everyone ends up getting access – the only way to prevent it would be to make the item soulbound/accountbound upon creation, in which case you negate the entire point for some of us crafters (IE. decking out our friends with the best they can get). Granted, limiting how you get it doesn’t make that much of an effect either – just look at all the people running around in full T3 culturals, or full sets of the Temple Karma gear.
The only real part that confuses me is the opposite setup of the weapon and armor crafting – weapons only get unique skins (of crafted) on the rare levels (such as the Bandits), whereas armor gets the same skins on the rare levels. I’m always game for more crafted varieties though, as more options puts out more possible unique players looks (for those of us who like to mix ’n match).
One thing I’d rather not see is any more of the time-gated stuff. I can understand the point behind it (stop people from getting it all day one then complaining about having nothing to do again), but as far as crafting goes it feels counter-intuitive to me, as in the case of the 500 gear, if I wanted to make stuff for even just one friend and myself, that’s going to be a forced 12 days of time for a full set of the new gear (even if it has new stats that just seems steep to me). If it becomes trade-able, that tells me people are going to inflate the price tag on it exponentially, just due to the time sink (and although I’m all for easier ways for me to make some money through crafting, it just doesn’t feel right to me).
