Hello Folks!

I come from the Tarnished Coast server and have gathered many opinions about the future of this great game the team has crafted. I hope you enjoy some of my suggestions and I hope to generate some interesting conversation. (I have trimmed my post down by about 60%, so to save all readers a bit of time)

While the team is producing lengthy patches every month, they are not satisfying the needs of an aging and growing player base. I was inspired by the book “Destiny’s Edge” and the chapters where the heroes of the story fight in an Arena at Lion’s Arch. Crowd members take bets, chant and boo, and get to watch combatants duke it out for their entertainment. Being a healthy part of the lore, I wondered why this was not mentioned as an addition to the game later down the road? Not only does the community clamor for a dueling feature, alongside more conventional PvP interaction, but if the rest of the community could watch a staged duel in an instanced area out of Lion’s Arch, it would give them something fun to do.

Looking to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, I spent far too much time both watching and participating in the arena it provided for me.
Historically, people enjoy arenas for amusement (Gladiators and the Colosseum, right?)

The goal of an arena for players to fight in (Be it in teams or solo), is to generate content created by the community. Community generated content often out-lasts most developer-created content as the lasting value is virtually endless at times; things are always new! A dungeon can grow stale, but seeing your friends kill one-another never gets old!

So far, while Guild Wars 2 facilitates a beautiful landscape, gameplay, lore, and many other things, the content is beginning to run dry for many players, including myself. I’ve got much more to say on this, but I’d enjoy hearing the community’s opinion. Again, I did cut my original statement down considerably.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks for that input, but I lack understanding for this situation.

Someone on Massively used the example that this Fire guy who was immune to fire damage would create content solely full of fire mobs. Or something like that.

That being said, who says it has to be the same?

For one, you could impose limits:

  • How many times a day you could run them.
  • A minimum requirement on how many mobs have to be in the dungeon.

To make it less desirable to farm.

Experience, Loot Drop Rates ect are all determined by how many factors are in the instance. For example:

  • Regular mobs don’t grant XP, and only drop vendor trash.
  • Veterans grant XP and only drop blues, whites and vendor trash.
  • Champions grant XP and drop yellows and greens.
  • Bosses (which are created by players by choosing profession and skills) grant XP, and a higher chance of rares and greens.
  • Traps (spike traps), additional mechanics (i.e. the Hammer in the Cliffside Fractal) and environmental effects (i.e. an effect that reduces Endurance regen) add x% drop rate for Exotics (we’re talking small amounts like 0.1% per trap). However, you don’t place the traps, the engine automatically does this (so you can’t exploit putting in traps in areas you don’t need to go).
Life is a journey.
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.
