Creature Codex (Re-release)
I totally remember those, they were very cool, as boss/creature compendiums.
I wonder why they were removed from the game, maybe it was too much work at the time?
I hope they come back as a collectibles sometimes
Maybe something that got removed just with the reason behind to re-implement it later in an other improved form as new content under an Add on or under an later coming Update…
But looking at the wiki, it just tells me, CC’s in beta were just the first form of how players should obtain some skill points, which then got replaced with the current mechanic of collecting additional skill points by fighting enemies and communicating to the environment to draw some sort of power out of the place and absorb it or receiveing certain items, that once you use them, get a skill point…
So basically the core mechanic in certain cases of using an item to get a skill point is still in the game, but not just as a priorized only kind of way to get additional skill points by only this way, like these creature codexes seem to work.
So from my view of point I’d personally rather like to see Creature Codexs as somethign totally different and new improved implemented feature.
Books, which you can read, like GW1 books (visual book appears, opens up and lets you toggle between the pages back n forth) that when you read them, give the players various thigns to do with them.
1) reading them to see some visual lore as mini movies about the creature
2) reading them, to learn something about the past making it able as a group to replay parts of the past in some kind of instanced missions (Guild/Group Adventures) cough just like the BMP worked in GW1
Thinking on things like Ghosts of Ascalon playing as Dougal and his companions…
Or the second and soon coming third GW book, whose stories I’d love to replay in the game makeing the connections between the books and the game stronger, as we can se already characters from the books in the game, like Dougal Keane standing in Lions Arch…
3) Books as sort of compendium, which list up all your unlocked recipes, found/killed creatures, and so on
4) books as an item, with that characters can learn new skills, traits and talents, remembering me on the Almanachs of GW1
5) books as a kind of quest giver for treasure hunts, reading about rumors and other interesting informations, leadign to scavenger hunts for very rare and valuable items, for example precursors
6) books as new kind of magical weapon.. I’d love to see some books for axample as Focus Weapon, they would suit so perfectly for eles, necros and mesmers.
A necromancer needs a Necronomicon ^^.. Elementalists their Grimoires and Mesmers their Almanachs
7) books as map clearers… bored of having to to clear a map again with a twink, when you’ve got already 100% with your main chara ? Buy Explorator Books that can clear certain map pieces for you instantly (no SP’s, no WP, only POIS and Vistas together with the exp from finding new places).. making these books some huge ExP Boosts, but for that they are very very expensive and will cost gold, laurels and karma
8) books as dungeon compendiums, just like in GW1 which can be used as reward trades to get some extra gold, karma, laurels and dungeon tokens, if you trade in completed dungeon compendiums. (hopefully the existing dungeons will then get improved by adding some new pathes)
9) books as consumeable buff items adding a new crafting profession.. the writer
symbol beaing a writing feather
Writers could craft then various kinds of books, papers, scrolls, inscriptions, gravures, recipes, manuscripts and so on …
GW2 NEEDS BOOOOOOOKS ^^ in all its ways as I listed them up here how they can be used.
