Cross Type Armor Transmute
I wouldn’t mind this, but it goes against a-net’s policy of being able to tell roughly what that baddie running towards you will do to you and your dead body by looking at his weapon and clothes.
Thing about that policy though is, you can click on them to quickly see their class then click off to clear your target. Besides for light and medium armor there are 3 classes that person could be, and for heavy there are 2 classes. For determining the level of their gear, they can transmute it into a lower level look anyways.
I could /sign this if it allowed me to transmute my town clothes graphics onto my armor. I want to wear town clothes all the time on my sylvari.
No because thieves running around in heavy armor would be ridiculous, also there would be so many people getting clipping issues with their armor. & I like being able to tell what class they are without having to target so I can get my utility skills ready for the kind of situation I’m about to be in.
I agree — there are plenty of skins for light amor that would work for medium, medium for light, etc. And I’m not worried about what’s running at me and determining beforehand what class they are — if they’re coming at me with that mean, hungry look on their faces, they’re going down regardless.

Ever try cross-previewing armor classes? Textures start getting ugly. I imagine that’s the reason for the restriction, and it probably isn’t as easy as simply “fixing” them, since the models of each class are designed or coded to flow and react appropriately within the armor class by making necessary edits where necessary.
It looks cool to put heavy greaves and gauntlets on a light or medium armor coat and pants set, but in most cases there is something screwy with the textures in doing so and in some cases, even extra model bits appearing that weren’t there before.
This would be great to have, and I’m sure they even considered it, but there’s a lot more work involved than simply removing the transmutation restrictions.
Then there’s the somewhat related alternative: introducing more town clothes. Generic stuff from a vendor would be a nice start, as willing as I am to pay $$$ for the more gaudy fashionable wear.
Well you are unaware that there was a bug recently that allowed armors to be transmuted on to other classes but this was fixed as this is not intended for the game. You can generally tell what kind of foe is running at you based on their weapon and the skills they are using, a charr with a greatsword may look menacing in either heavy or light as if it’s not a warrior then you got a mesmer coming at you; which is worse?
You can always preview other classes armor on your character, there is no glitched or clipping issues as all races can be all professions, a human necro stands the same way as a human guardian.
I like the idea of more town clothes, but as it is only october I say give it time.
