I was looking at my map today and thinking about how much of the world i haven’t been to. One of the places I’ve been thinking about is the Crystal Desert, Specifically the mechanics of the zone. So i made a list of things that might be cool for the zone.

1. When entering the zone you get a set of cover gear (cosmetic) that protects you from the heat and will upgrade visually when you do certain events (heart, random, story) in the zone. You must wear this gear outside of town or else you get a debuff called [Heat Stroke] that will reduce healing and do small damage every few minutes.

2. Plunder event: This event would be a tomb raider type event use puzzle elements to open a crypt or chest.

3. Curse of the Twisting Sands events: These events would be triggered by giant sinkholes open in the desert leading to multiple places (jumping puzzle, mini open world dungeon, plunder event).

4. The Crusades: I’m sure every one on here can vouch for me if they have done the “temple run” every day that it gets boring and 90% of the time the loot turns out to not be worth it really. So i have thought of a way to fix this. The Crusades would be a giant event chain starting in the first area of a zone and leading threw to the last area of a zone and a massive boss fight. The events could consist of jumping puzzles, mini boss fights, collection events, etc. You could only do this once a week and would have multiple end bosses. Also you could have one giant crusade across many zone that can only be done once a month (but i don’t know if it would work well).

5. The Crystal Phoenix: “The people of the desert tell of a legend….a giant creature made of fire and crystal, that soars high above the desert scorching clouds and setting the desert its self ablaze. Most say they are just stories, others say its the heat…,but some believe it….few search for it….and all who find it shall know the meaning of fear. Remember young one…..this desert…..is alive”. -old man in desert town.

Well that’s my suggestion for the Crystal Desert. Hope you guess like it and feel free to add to it, make changes, point out my grammar mistakes, etc etc. ^^

Wow… Let me just say that again. Wow.
This is probable the most balanced and thought out idea I’ve seen yet. It has potential and promise.

What about sandstorms. I don’t think the majority of CD should be covered in sandstorms but they could add an interesting element to it.

1) A jumping puzzle in the sky, surrounded by a wicked sandstorm. You have to jump through the area and not get swept away by the sandstorm or you will end up at the beginning again.

2) A maze or other trial. The area is covered in blowing sand and your visibility is restricted. The only way out is to follow the clues or risk getting blown back to the beginning or the previous checkpoint in the puzzle.

3) Blowing sand appears in a part of the Crystal Desert periodically. The sand obstructs the players view and makes it easy to run into ambushes (maybe that would work for a dungeon instance).

4) An instance boss similar to the ice elemental from the ‘snow blind’ fractal. However instead of causing a blizzard, it causes a sandstorm. The boss could possibly be similar to a large wurm.

After i read pages and pages of lore i have a few Additions.

1. The Sanctum of Night: “They use to call this place the Bone Palace. The keep that holds what remains of Palawa Joko inside of its walls…..and the terrors that have escaped into this world threw the Nightfall. The chambers were filled with horrors from another world. The dead walked again inside its walls, and a banished god was almost unleashed here, but…..that was long ago…..no one has been inside the walls for years. some say you can hear screams of the kitten echoing from its chambers at night, but most say its the wind…..if you ask me…..the riches might be worth a little madness, Ha ha”.

The Sanctum of Night would be a open world dungeon. It could have a one time opening of its gates event and a huge event line that takes you threw the chambers to fight bosses, do jumping / regular puzzles, and so on. After the one time event it could be a mini zone that has random events and even a Crusade threw it. Also the phoenix could be a precursor to the one time world event.

Well, it is nice, but, then we need such condition in other zones as well.
But if we will have condition in Crystal Desert, what will you do with Norns who walking on the freezing Shiverpeaks, half naked? Even in GW1 they were half naked.

Zero Angel, awesome ideas about the sand storm! I think it would be cool if the zone had random giant sand storms that make it almost impossible to see, so you have to take shelter in a town and help them guard against the monsters / bandits that could attack under the cover of the storm. You could be able to track the sand storms on the map and avoid them if you want to.

Kreslin It would just be for the new zone, and just because one zone has this mechanic it doesn’t mean they all need to have special mechanics. Plus this one would have a reason for the storms, like the phoenix could be flying over causing them or Joko could be using his powers to make them.

It would be awesome to go back to Tombs of Primeval Kings and other known places from GW1.

Also, we need ruins covered in sand which would change itself if its day or night. While the sun would be up, the whole place would be giant jumping puzzle but at night the monsters would come out changing place into battlefield.

Mirrors are more fun than television.

LunarDeLuna, A use of Night / Day timer mechanics….love it! Also for those who cant be on during day time hours on the server there could be a night time jumping puzzle that makes you stay in the light area (made by hanging magic powered crystals) that the monsters cant go into, kind of like red light green light thing.
