Considering the prices, much less them being “rare”, the cultural armors seem like they should just be templates to adjust your current armor or weapon to look like the culture you are from. I really don’t see anyone spending 100+ gold on a rare set of armor.

I would like to see the cultural armor pieces available as a template at a vendor for karma as opposed to gold and/or available for the cost of gems in the market.

No, they should be bought with the most valuable currency: gold. It needs to be high priced too, since they’re supposed to be kind of ‘prestige’. I’ve been saving for the first piece for a while now (shoulders) and will never accept any change to their acquisition.

If they are supposed to be about prestige why are they rare and not exotic? No one is buying them for their stats why should they not just be templates.

Not everyone is a gold farmer… at least with Karma there are a multitude of ways to acquire them.

A big issue is probably the fact that they are linked to achievements and Anet wants people to have to take the time to work towards it.
