The game has too many different types of currency: gold, gems, karma, tokens for each dungeon, skill points, influence, and I may have forgotten some. All of them add up to measurements for having played the game.

I’d love it if there was just one currency, say gold. If you want a test for players before permitting them to reap rewards from a particular area, use completion flags or spawn the vendors at successful completion — the latter isn’t so nice for perusing skins in advance of making the effort of obtaining said skin, though.

My post on this issue got lost really fast, but yeah there are way too many currencies at this point and they’ll probably add more as well…

I think it’s too early in the game for more people to really care about or see this as a problem yet. It’s also somewhat normal for MMOs and the slight “whine” about currency proliferation is seen somewhat as “well, if you want the item, you’ll have to do the activity for it”.

They don’t see the other side of it, which is “well, I’ve done it over and over on other characters, my bank/chars are stuffed with other currencies, and I just want to grab some skins for my alt without having to repeat things ad nauseum.”

And, I’m wondering how they’re keeping it all balanced and accounted. With so many different currencies, my bet is that a lot aren’t even factored into their economic models. This results in some currencies having zero value.

For instance, I have a lot of karma across my characters. It has zero value. I have achievement points with no value (well, I do like to collect them .. why? dunno .. they’re there .. lol?). I have have various dungeon tokens with little value — probably because that dungeon offers armor with what I see as pointless stats (and it’s all almost universally hideous skin-wise).

I just think it would be nice if the progress measurements were more universally applicable. I do agree in the separation of PvP and PvE currencies, though. Those game-types are sufficiently different that playing one shouldn’t translate to progress in another.
