Custom level adjustment

@OP, that would be a good feature. Probably not on their radar right now, but I can definately see them adding this.
Yeah perhaps they will add a ‘Hard Mode’ like in Guild Wars 1, but based on lowering your gear and level further rather than the enemies up. Then you can still play with everyone else As long as the rewards are a bit better. Would be cool to see that in dungeons especially, say 2 or 3 levels down from what you are supposed to be.
I think that 3 levels down wont be enuf. I’ve been questing in an area 35-45 while lvl 29. Getting the kick i was looking for.

Also question for open discussion. What would a possible boon for this system give?
XP rate?
Better Loot?
Faster quest progress?
Decreased penalty for sucking?
or just for the challenge…

Great response take off the gear with all the sigils and runes and wear lower level gear it will be a challenge alright jajajajja no need for them to waste precious development time and redirect resources for something you can accomplish by yourself LOL.

This “wear lower level gear” idea solves your issue and doesn’t require Arena.net to divert valuable resources to develop something you can achieve on your own…!!

So why couldn’t i just get crap gear?
Mainly cause, it’s a hassle. It floods the inventory to have different sets for different levels. I could ofc run around naked. That should take some interest from players around u. Would you do it? Or would you rather have this? (I’m guessing neither)
Ofc the hypocrisy arises because it would be a hassle for the Arena team to have to implement it. Or would it? I mean the level adjustment system is already implemented and running. All that is needed it some way to control it. It could be as simple as right click on the level frame decreases 1 level and left click increases 1 level.
Now with my limited knowledge(which is zero btw) of how this implementation works i can’t actually say anything about it being an easy/difficult task.
So easy or not. It certainly would be nice to have.
It’s pretty obvious that the game designer have chosen not to give the players any control over the content that they are fighting. There is only a very narrow window of what you are fighting, usually only 1-3 levels wide.
While I agree that a difficulty slider would be much better design than a leveling system, this will probably never get implemented.
I like the idea of something like hardmode. Sadly I don’t see how this could ever be compatible with a persistent world.
So in the end I am afraid you will be stuck with a very arbitrary and level dependent difficulty system, with no easy or quick fixes.
That also means no increased rewards for making it harder on yourself. No risk / reward payoffs.
Running around half naked is probably all someone can do when faces with situations like these. Have fun streaking.
