It would be possible to translate the game into Czech only texts?

I understand that a complete translation would be expensive, because I understand that the Czech and Slovak community is not large, but only a translation of the texts I think not so much expensive when they do and amateur teams due to which has been translated into Czech zpousta quality games that would otherwise have been the only OFFICIAL languages.

I also pointed out that a similar translation would certainly attract more players, and I would point out to play 4Story and metin2 Czech localization which have, making them at home and quite popular.

Well, I don’t think that the Czech localization would return its investments m8. There is kinda a lot of text going on in-game and that would take a lot of manpower to translate it correctly. I still rather prefer the original than a bad translation.

if one language, barely spoken at all, is translated for the game then i simply ask the same for my own.
i rather play the english version but i know some ppl who are horrible in the english language, it’s sometimes fun to see them try and fail but i understand the frustration.

Even if people would translate it for free ArenaNet would still need to hire someone to read through all the translated lines to make sure they are correct and such.

And if they did it for Czech, why not do it for every single language in the world?
Then they would suddenly have a MASSIVE amount of work to be done. And with each new release (every two weeks) they would have to get it translated and proof-read and so on.
It is not really possible for ArenaNet to validate those kind of costs.

If done for you it should definitely be done for others and equally small language groups, not to mention bigger language groups which don’t have it either. I have long since accepted that Danish is not viable outside of Denmark and wont be used in international games…. unless it is made for little children. I have a friend that might have tried gaming too if this was not the case, but alas it is.

Yes I know that approximately 20 million speaking the language is not much, but playing against the Spaniards population is not too much, and Spanish is. the thing is, even if all the text is translated correctly and every single grammar and spelling flaw is ironed out by a group of players, they still need to ad another category within the code and place all the text in the right order on the right place/NPC/whatever.
another thing you need to consider is that you first need to understand what the text is saying before placing it anywhere, otherwise you end up with a description about a fireball on life transfer.

You are underestimating the amount of work needed.
Especially since they would need to do more work every two weeks, which means that they more or less need to hire full-time employees for every single language, and that would be quite expensive, and since the game does not have a sub it would require people to spend much more in the store in order to generate enough money.

Of course they can do it. The question is what does it cost and how much are YOU willing to pay for it.
Doing it for a small player group is time taking and thus expensive. Are you willing to pay extra for it, or do you just want it for free?

And no English is not my first language, but having played computer games for over twenty years have taught me much about the language along with having learned it in school for couple of years.

Yes, I have translated quite a few things (mainly movies and business software though, never games) and it does take quite a bit of time and effort.

In school I was taught in English. Not all players are between 15-30 years. I’m not linguistically gifted. I do not think the point is how many players it plays. The language would play a lot more. Years ago I played Baldur’s gate in both languages. Only with Czech I understand the game enough to know it by heart, and even now I remember where are all the traps. About this game it will never be able to claim. With Baldur’s gate, we knew one thing. It is something else to play the game that you understand and that you do not understand. Guild is a game for killing time, nothing more.

I think this discussion is difficult. On one side I can understand that people from other countries would love to have translations for a game they enjoy playing. It just gives them the feeling of being a part of the community.

However I think that if you chose to play a game and it’s not available in your language then sadly you have to learn the language or use a translator. If you don’t want to do that, then there’s plenty of other games out there that have been translated.

Translating a game for a part of the community that is not the majority of the game, is and always will be a waste of money and time.

Most of the supported languages ??can not chose this play only coolie graphics and mechanics of the game. But it is true that most of them have a game on reduction of free time, a full-fledged gaming can be no question. Translate to use the game? and how? it’s still possible but it requires Anet to adjust some parts, allow a text file like a simple .ini to replace all the text when the ini file has the correct NPC NR and dialect NR.
