This suggestion is for addressing two complaints I’ve been reading on various forums:
-Incentives to visit zones other than Orr once you hit 80
-Certain zones feeling empty

So previously in other games, the primary form to encourage content exploration was done through daily quests that would require you to visit x zone to do y task or slay z NPC. Taking ideas from what GW2 has done so far, what if we were to take the concept of daily quests one step further?

The overarching plot for GW2 is that we have these elder dragons who are corrupting the existing races and creatures of Tyria and slowly expanding their territory and waging war against all life as we know it. Yet aside from certain zones and personal story steps, you never really feel this.

At the end of BWE2, Anet did a farewell event which turned the entirety of Plains of ashford into a warzone against Branded. Players had to work together to free waypoints which were crystalized as well as slay monsters.

What I’m suggesting is that every day, or on a less frequent time cycle, a different zone is under assault from an elder dragon’s forces. Participating in fighting in this zone during the event’s time period guarantees that the drops will always be on level.

I understand that there would be technical as well as lore hurdles (how would the already existing NPC’s, hearts, DE’s, etc. interact with this invasion event?) that would have to be over come; but if it could be done, I think it’d be a great way to encourage people visiting other zones and to alleviate the pressure that some people feel in regards to being ‘required’ to do Orr for level 80 drops.

This is by far, the most creative idea that I’ve encountered on the topic of level 80-content relevancy (and even lore continuity!) Of course, I wouldn’t suggest doing these events in the starting zones (as you’ve mentioned Plains of Ashford), but I can think of a few locations that just feel dead (e.g. The Iron Marches, mid-south Fireheart Rise, etc.) that could use this kind of pick-me-up.

My added suggestion would be to perhaps make these “warzones” encompass more than one map at any given time, so as to not have everyone flooding to only one map. Perhaps also add in a few gathering nodes that are reflective of what you would also find in Orr? All temporary, of course. Overall, great idea :]

This idea sounds awesome…as being part of an RP guild on Tarnished Coast, I would love to see some sort of warzone area where there is a HEAVY concentration of NPCs.

An example area could be outside Ebonhawke, where separatists fight the Ebon Vanguard. While soldiers are there fighting in an endless battle, there are only enough soldiers so that you and one other person would have enough to keep you occupied. A similar battle area or multiple battle areas could be placed throughout the world.

One obvious argument against this would be for farmers…why put an area such as this in if bots will just sit on them? The answer: Make them not conducive to farming. In this way, you could make a reward similar to, kill 100 or even kill 1000 enemies, and you get a portion of karma…enough that it will not be worth farming all day. In this way, you not only create a nice battlefield for effect, but us RPers can get some great storylines going in the middle of the battlefield.

Agreed. Although, they would need to upscale everyone in the area up to level 80. Or else either the mobs wouldn’t drop loot useful to level 80’s, or inversely the mobs would be too strong for low level players in that area.

As well as give newer players in that area a different experience, and a money gain burst, as they’ll be getting level 80 drops.

I dont know about upscaling Nevarato, you could just make various zones for different level zones?

I think making some war zones only for lower levels will negate the original point of encouraging high level players to come repopulate to lower level areas. I think the dragon events should remain leveled for the 80’s, and good luck to everyone else who wants to participate.

@schizandra – The point at least though is, PvE constant warzones are needed for at least aesthetics!

Interesting idea…I would love to see something like this implemented in the future.

Does sound like a good idea, but should also be done in a way that it does not ruin the story for new-comers. Yes we know that they basically explained the story through commercials and what-not, but it would be terrible for a person first starting the game, doesn’t know what the story will turn into, then sees a massive dragon and a giant warzone. Does sound cool, but need to play it safe story-wise.

It doesnt have to be just dragons and such vs an army..I’m thinking something like

Queensdale- Warzone of Humans vs Centaur
Ashford Plains- Warzone of Charr vs Flame Legion
Snowden Drifts and/or Frostgorge Sound- Warzone of Norn vs Sons of Svanir

Similar battles can go on in various places..but the point would be an area where theres a large scale battle taking place, sure it might have points when the battle comes to a stop or theres a temporary cease of battle, but for the most part this is just so battle lines can reform and then both sides can go at it again endlessly again. These areas would be great to just have fun, blow off some steam or as I’ve stated previously..would be excellent RP tools for those RP guilds out there.
