Why is the day and night cycle so strange in gw2? Each day only seems to last 45 minutes and it really takes from the game, I think they should make it a server time thing sort of how other games like WoW do it, because this just bugs me

Because different events are triggered depending on whether it’s day or night, and ANet didn’t want people to miss out on anything while they were sleeping.

If it were realtime I would only ever have the same time as I work during the day and play during the evening…

I prefer it as it is now.

It is too fast though really. I mean sometimes I get up to use the bathroom and it’s night already. Then I’ll go have a smoke later and it’s day again. I’m aging so fast in this game!!!

Cereally though, why not an 8 or 16 hour day instead? That way it won’t the be the same time of day in-game as it is in real life everyday. And peeps woudn’t be forced to play at the same game-time every night or whatever.

Makes sense to me. /shrugs

I wouldn’t be surprised if the planet was spinning so fast it would fly apart in reality. On topic, I thought they decided on the cycle time with respect to average play time.

Anyone know the exact time it takes for the whole cycle to complete? I’m stood in the Godlost swamp right now and have been for a good 20 mins and the sky hasn’t changed much!

Actually the only thing that bugs me about the Day / Night cycle is how it isn’t consistant across all servers and zones. Travelling from Overflow to the regular server usually is a jarring shift from day to night and I’m pretty sure this happens when you zone too.

Yup all zones have independent day/night (occasionally weather) cycles. Can create some odd effects traveling between zones.

my best indicator for night and day is,

AC weapons, and ghostly pepper popper,.

and its really odd, like in other maps, its like the sun is shinning brightly, but actually its night time, i hope night time is a little darker

The day/night cycle is fine the way it is. People should stop comparing the mechanics of this game to WoW.

I would argue the cycle is a bit long given that I am currently waiting for the sun to set so I can work on my bat slayer.

I think it’s a 2hr day/night cycle. Full planetary rotation in 2hrs means either 1 tiny-kitten planet or a ridiculous rotation speed. A fast speed would seriously affect gravity, which explains all the difficulty with jumping puzzles in GW2.

Only thing I’d change is a universal clock across all zones. Walking from one to the next (or even from overflow) is awkward when it’s suddenly night when it was mid-day 10 seconds earlier.

How do you know Tyria is part of a planet? It seems pretty flat to me unless they will do a “Google Earth style” animation map

Totally agree with this!

And while we are talking day/night, WTB a Dark Nights option. There just isn’t enough difference between day & night IMO so at least giving an settings option for a darker night would be great.

Looking at the globe in the Chantry of Secrets, you can extrapolate from what we can actually measure (the accessible zones of Tyria) and realise that the planet is tiny. It’s really not spinning fast at all.
