I realize that this would be disliked by a lot of players — probably the majority — for delaying cash rewards, but every time I complete a heart quest and instantly get the NPC mail or finish a personal story quest and instantly get the letter to move on to the next step, I can’t help but think about how weird it is. It’s often little things like this that are constantly snapping players out of their immersion every few minutes and reminding us it’s just a game. Personally, I’d take a 30 minute delay on the silver for heart completion or being able to move on in my personal story for the sake of having it make a little more sense.

No, I wouldn’t like this. Delaying my money just to be ‘immersed’ would justkitten me off as I like to get my money straight away and not wait.

Some people play the game for the game, others play it for the story and/or RP, and still others play it for PvP or completely different reasons. You can’t make everyone happy, but you can do things that generally don’t alienate the majority of your playerbase. This is where Quality of Life issues and/or convenience come into play. This is one of those times.

If you’d like to feel immersed, then wait a half hour before opening the mail. As is, there’s no real reason to change this.

I actually agree. Getting email instantly feels weird an out of place. The money in the letter is amount that is hardly “important” for your game progress, so I doubt it really matters when you will get it. But story-wise, getting mail sometime later makes more sense. Obviously, best of both worlds, would be to allow player to decide – if he wants the finish instantly, he can go to that heart person and talk to him, get the praise and money and maybe the mail without money later. If he doesn’t want to talk to heart, just send him the mail with money in 5-30 min range.

From my vantage point those leaves are a different color.

I would not support this.

In real life, that mail is just the NPC’s way of saying “Thanks”. If we were actually there, then the NPC could literally just come up to us and say exactly what they did in the letter. But to keep us from being forced to stick around, it’s sent in a letter instead. Also, so we can store all of our “thanks” in our inboxes. It’s a nice way to look at all the cool things you’ve done for people when you’re done.

As for the money, I rarely ever spend it right away so it’s basically like I waited 30 minutes for my reward anyway.

Being able to just run up to the heart NPC and get your cash reward right away is a pretty cool idea…it’s not like the player isn’t right in the area when he completes it, anyway. And if you don’t run back to the NPC for your silver, you’d get it in the mail shortly. I like it.

Anyway, like I said before, I realize there are a ton of players who would dislike this. I just fall into that smaller percentage of players who don’t necessarily want every little convenience feature added to the game, especially ones that some players will scoff at because it seems so ridiculous. I hardly think delaying someone’s 2 silver heart reward or making them find something else to do for 30 minutes before moving on in their personal story would be ‘alienating’ the players. To me, it’d beat getting a letter from a story NPC telling me to meet them somewhere when I’m literally still standing right next to them because I haven’t even left the instance from the completed quest yet.

This is after all a RPG game, not a glorified Diablo. I know that people like to hack and slash mobs and get loot, but I was under impression that the immersion and story matters in this kind of games.
