With all the annoying gold sellers spamming chat every 20 seconds, I suggest that if a set amount of people report a player for spamming in x amount of time, that account becomes disabled and that they have to speak with customer service to reactivate it. Now some of you may think that people would abuse it and disable the account of people that they dislike but this wouldn’t happen because 1_) There wouldn’t be enough people reporting them in the set amount of time to disable them and 2) those who make fake reports would be punished with a suspension or something like that…

So here is an example of how this works.

Bob spams ‘’buy my gold …buy my gold at…buy my gold…’’

20 players report him for spamming within 5 minutes and his account is temporarily suspended until he speaks with customer support.

Gold adverts won’t speak with customer support. It gives ANET an advantage as they are now taking care of the spammers much faster and without much effort. Sure this has to be coded in but after that, it’s easy peasy.

Ok I’m sure there are flaws in here. Remember, this is my opinion and I wouldn’t go out and make fun of yours. Yes, defensive because I know how some of you can get.

I’m just sick of the gold spammers using 90% of my chat windows when in Lion’s arch and such. I’m trying to find a solution for our community.

There are threads in the Account Issues forums where players have been automatically suspended by the game because they have been playing in a way that makes them ‘seem’ to be bots, so the technology to auto-suspend is there.

Effectively giving ‘players’ the power to suspend an account could lead to major issues though, especially as it takes so long for an account to get unbanned. I could see ways of the system being abused tactically.

I think the idea has some merit, but I’d hate to see it in place before customer services have had the time to get through the huge backlog of account tickets.

Or at least put the account on a temporary block in our chat box after reporting.

You’re right it could use some fine tuning. I do also agree that all these poor people who have been the victims of hacks and are undergoing the ‘’ticket process’’ at the moment are the number 1 priority. At least I can play so I get that my annoyance at the gold spammers doesn’t take first row at the moment but in the future when those pressing issues have been taken care of, the gold spammers will need to be addressed. They should loose a lot of momentum once people regain their hacked accounts too because for now they have so many accounts it seems like.

You also need to remember that the accounts spamming the chat and messaging system with gold adverts, are the same accounts that have been hacked.

Anet recently announced that they were going to force all passwords to be changed, and all current passwords would be added to a database combined with all the passwords that are being tested by hackers. New passwords could not be picked that match a password listed in the database.

That forces everyone to use a new stronger password, and if it works as they hope, then once the hacked players have their accounts back, the gold sellers will have to spam us using their own bought and paid for accounts.

Yes that’s why I said that they should lose a lot of momentum once the hacked accounts are dealt with. For now, they just have so many accounts. It’s crazy. Our ignore lists are full! I do feel bad for those poor people who cannot play and are having their accounts abused by those hackers. I am hoping that once it’s all dealt with, the spam will also be much reduced. It would still be nice at that point to have something like I mentioned in my original post…with some tweaks in the system of course as I can see flaws in it. I think that we can all agree that for now, the spammers are just so annoying. You put one on ignore and they are back under a different name 1 minute later grrr.
