Disabling flood protection for WvW commanders
Seems logical to me.
Doing what I can for DB during EU primetime
Does not have to be disabled, just extended so that you can write more and at the same time not spam the chat. But the idea is good!
However it should probably only work that way in WvWvW as we dont want to get spammed by gold seller bots that simply buy a commander icon to be able to spam more effectively.
The flood protection in general should be reworked, too often does it block legitimate messages.

But yes, COMPLETELY agree with OP. It is beyond frustrating to have your Commander unable to command. I think it’s eminently reasonable to disable chat suppression only for:
1) Someone wearing a Commander icon
2) in a WvWvW zone

Yeah maybe not disable but increase the number of text before reaching the limit indeed!

I’m pretty sure every commander who has to command through chat agrees. Being suppressed as you’re trying to gather for a flank just sucks so much.
agreed, maybe implementing a pop up window when hovering over the commander icon where the commander can type a 100 symbol message to be displayed could resolve this aswell.

I will not type anything for 2 minutes, then will type fall back/push in; which will be suppressed. Also that kills our players who do not know what to do now that the gate/wall is breached.
It’s pretty ridiculous, implementation is terrible. You can spam everything and then pause for 5 minutes, put 1 thing into team chat; suppressed. I really have not found a logical way that chat suppression works.
How are we supposed to communicate with our server’s players if all that Arena net provides is Team/Map/Squad chat (nobody joins Squad chat, whether that is our server alone is another topic; but I’m sure we can all agree Squads needs reworking). Team/Map chat suppression is play changing.
I have to resort to telling my party/guild/whispers for people to type what I needed in chat minutes ago..usually not resulting in the desired effect if it takes that much more time to explain what is going on/next course of action.
(I also use my guild’s voice chat + public voice chat due to this flaw; and if you say that should be all a commander needs, then you are naive)
Every single person in WvW will not be on the same voice chat, so when commanders are suppressed and people that are not on voice chat auto attack the gate causing orange swords on the map; of whom were not able to see the “Please do not attack/auto attack the gate” because I am suppressed because all I typed before is “Get to X Tower” + “Drop 2 rams” then 1minute later try to type the above and suppressed.
Tldr; Fix this please. This is causing so much bad plays because people cannot decide to commit/fall back in times of suppression so they just wipe; and down goes team morale.

I have guild members who have typed LFM TA Explore twice into PvE map chat (Lions arch) within 5 minutes of the prior message and the third time he tried, it took hours before he could type in map….Yet we have gold sellers that literally post 10-20 gold selling advertisements in 2-5 minutes and does not get suppressed.
Does this mean we should resort to ending our sentences with a cute little unique tag (just like the gold sellers) like -2aj39 so that spam protection stops blocking vital communication?
I think that removing the flood protection for commanders in WvW sounds good. If a bot spends 100 gold just to spam more it likely won’t do him any good anyway, the second I see someone offer to sell gold I instantly report then ignore them. I’d be willing to bet that is SOP for just about everyone out there. Commanders need to be able to communicate, we need to have them able to do so for success. I would say limit it to WvW if it’s possible like previous posters have suggested, but I do feel this change is one that’s needed.
