Topic says it all. Does Magic Find work for the mystic forge (ie increase chance for better items)?

Does anyone have a link to Dev or Game Designer response to this?

What does MF work for and not work for and how is loot determined?

Example: Is loot based on contribution for dungeons? Is loot determined based on code such as here’s the possible loot table.

Item A common 20%
Item B common 20%
Item C Fine 10%
Item D Masterwork 5%
Item E Rare 3%
Item F Exotic 0.5%

And then multiply Magic Find bonus times those drop rates of Fine or better items?

It’s just very vague and it seems my friends get more Rares than me in dungeons when I run 187% Magic Find on my gear and they run 0%.

NOTE: I’m mainly concerned about the Mystic Forge, the dungeon part is a tangent.

Magic find only applies to resource gathering.

Tevesh,

Thank you for responding. Do you have any links to a possible wiki article or dev post that has stated this?

Tevesh, you are completely wrong ! Magic find does nothing at resource gathering ! Magic find only counts when you kill mobs and loot their bodies, and at boss chests.
As far as i know magic find doesn’t work with the mystic forge.
Silverghost do not list to Tevesh because he is very wrong.

Magic Find works on loot. That’s been tested and confirmed. (Several posts on Reddit where people posted results for a few hours of drops, with and without MF: in all cases, heavy MF resulted in much greater loot.)

I have yet to see any research addressing harvesting (gather/mine/cut). I have yet to see anyone proposing research on looting chests or the loot you get from map completion or daily achievements, because it’s nearly impossible to collect enough data.

You might also ask whether it’s worth it to add a few % MF or to max it out…or whether it’s not worth all that trouble. Depending on your style of play, you might be able to farm or complete events faster if you are spec’d for more damage or durability…and that might turn out to produce more wealth for you than any amount of MF.

My rule of thumb is: if I can live and kill stuff quickly, it does no harm to increase MF. (The old “they say it works even if you don’t believe in it” theory.) If I’m having trouble surviving or killing stuff, then off goes the MF equipment.
