Doing extremely hard activities to get / earn epic items.
Legendaries are not mandatory. And most legendaries require badges of honor from WvW, full exploration and badges from certain dungeons…which from what I’ve seen so far much of the people can’t actually obtain them cause they do not have the “skill” factor you seem to imply legendaries do not supply.
Well none… At least less.
Full exploration requires time but not skills that really set you apart. I also don’t think badges of honor are required but I am not sure. Still, running with a zerg does not really say much about your skills but will earn you some badges of honor.
In the end you can buy almost everything you need so then farming would the the trick.
Besides that I do not only want to make it more about skills but also making it more fun and more of a challenge .
At the risk of repeating what has already been said several times on these forums : I believe skill over grind was the announced philosophy for GW2…
So yeah, more meaningful activities for meaningful rewards.

Back up your sources when giving a quote. And grind has been removed from everything that requires you to get to end game. If you want anything else besides the max stats your character can have you will have to work for it, if that means farming dungeons or kicking people in the face at pvp. Hell you can even play pvp from level 1.
Legendaries are the same weapons with different skins for people to show off their dedication, if you do not have the dedication to do all that a legendary weapon requires and just want it for free or for “skill” than you probably don’t deserve it.
And on a side not… people complain A LOT… if one legendary would need something like the Mad king tower …they would start complaining that it is to hard. Or if another legendary required that you hold Stonemyst castle for 3 hours…again they would complain.
Skill based challenges would be easily exploitable and probably a lot less time consuming, also it would be almost impossible to do the correct balancing for it to be fair for all classes and races.
Legendaries wee added for ppl who enjoy the grind, they are not mandatory because of the philosophy arenanet had in mind.
If your only reason for playing the game is to be rewarded then you’re playing the wrong game.
using insanely hard activities to control supply of epic items , would be much preferred to the RNG of the magic forge.
+1
Skill requirements on epic items would be very much appreciated. To not deter half the playerbase, they can keep the grind+RNG stuff like legendaries there too, I have no problem with that. But introducing challenging content for nice gear would be the update I want most.
Let me begin to start with saying that I do not have anything against grinding / farming. I already made that clear in my first post by saying that I would like to see it if you need to farm directly for a mini or other items.
I do not like farming for a lot of gold and a lot of points or a lot of other material to be able to buy or create the item you really want. Sadly that’s how the most farming in GW2 works. And I don’t even mind that that sort is farming is in, I just would like to also see other options that also say more about skills then only the amount of time or money you put in.
That cleared I will address specifics things that are being said in this thread.
@Hastur.6231
“ if you do not have the dedication to do all that a legendary weapon requires and just want it for free or for “skill” than you probably don’t deserve it.”
This line makes no scene at all. You want to say skills is the same as getting it for free and it is not a form of dedication?
Only putting in time or money is indeed a form of dedication, doing very hard activities, learning them (because they should be really hard like I said) and so relying on skills is also a form of dedication. I ask to also include and reward this form of dedication.
“And on a side not… people complain A LOT… if one legendary would need something like the Mad king tower …they would start complaining that it is to hard. Or if another legendary required that you hold Stonemyst castle for 3 hours…again they would complain.”
You are 100% correct about this. But if there are multiple possibilities people have a choice. Of course there will still be complaining but that does not mean you should not add new content because people will also complain about that new content.

“Skill based challenges would be easily exploitable and probably a lot less time consuming”
If it is exploitable it is a bug and of course ArenaNet should and will try to prevent bugs. When somebody finds en exploit then he is lucky and he has the item more easy. ArenaNet can then fix the bug asap. His skill was then finding the exploit. But I disagree that is will be easily exploitable. Comparing it to the jumping puzzle, I don’t think anybody found an exploit for that.
Less time-consuming all depends on your skills. For somebody who has better skills it will be less time consuming and for somebody who lack skills it will be more time consuming or even impossible. He can then go for the items you can get by farming. I don’t suggest to take them out.
And you can’t say “it should be available for anybody” because that means you need to dumb the game down making it boring. Making it skill related might mean those items will not be available for unskilled players but the current legendary weapons are unavailable for people who lack time and money. So you will always keep that, that it what makes it a legendary.
Coming back on the exploitable. The current items you need you can just buy for a lot of gold and gold you can just buy. So an exploit might make it to easy (the problem of an exploit) but now there is also an ‘easy’ way to get it.
“also it would be almost impossible to do the correct balancing for it to be fair for all classes and races.”
Making the items account-bound is an easy fix for this problem. Then again, if it was unbalanced that having the item on a ‘bad’ race or profession would be even more of a challenge.
@Snow White.9680
“Legendaries wee added for ppl who enjoy the grind” Why did they then not add something similar for people who enjoy doing skilled required activities? That is then what I am suggesting.
“they are not mandatory because of the philosophy arenanet had in mind.” I never said that they were.
“If your only reason for playing the game is to be rewarded then you’re playing the wrong game.”
The whole MMORPG is build around doing things and getting rewarded for it with levels or items or achievements. Like the Legendary weapons are also a reward. If rewarding was not a major part they could also remove levels, legendary’s and so on.
can some one make a Infinite Light? i need so badly its not needed in making a legendary i just like it willing to pay 150 gold

Don’t forget to send me the money.
To be honest, I do not really get your point.
“Legendaries aren’t mandatory wah wah wah, when I get one I want to feel super special and hope no one else bothers to get one cus its super hard”
This game is meant to be designed for skill > grind. End game items should also represent this. If someone is skillful at gw2 they should be rewarded with nice stuff. If you aren’t skillful enough, practice until you are. This is the ideal way it should be. If I hear one more person say “well it isn’t compulsory” I SWEAR TO GOD I’M GONNA MURDER A KITTEN.
fyi, playing this game isnt compulsory, you dont “have to do it” by your own logic you have no right to ever complain about this game in any aspect. Hell you might not be able to log on, or Arenanet could start selling your info to 4chan, “well it’s your own fault, it’s not compulsory to play this game”.
This game has goals, people want to achieve them, they want to enjoy working for them. Why is that such a difficult concept for people? This isn’t about difficulty of achieving the goals, this is about enjoyment. Some people enjoy grinding, others don’t. Arenanet is one of the few MMO developers I would expect to challenge this notion of dull grinding when it’s players ask for it. (which they are btw!).

hahaha Im laughing so hard -.- xD i want it because in the game my name is Golden X Blade so when you use Infinite Light it glows color yellow like gold so its good for me ^.^
I support this. I think that the clocktower is a perfect example of how things should be and are not. 2 min of puzzle awarded a exotic item. 2 min plus (for me) a couple of hours falling down and smashing my head on the keyboard.
This is most certainly more fun that staying 2h farming the same 3 events in orr farming gold coz i need to buy this thing or that.

I think that is his point, I mean I would abuse this once i mastered w/e.

Or.. ya know it could be just limited to getting the super item once per charater?

I grinded a lot of Tot bags from clocktower. Also getting an awesome item once, kills the replay value of this skill based event. Why would Anet make something with no repetitive value? clock tower will come back every halloween, perhaps with different loot and it is only once a year, scarced enough for people to be playing it and constantly visiting. But a random skill based event that only gives something good your first try wouldn’t appeal to me a second try. Also it seems like a lot of work for an event with such a short lifespan. Not worth it.

I also said I would then like to have a harder version and also use random variables in it, so bricks you jump on can move at different places and with different speeds and so on.
Then require to do it 5 or max 10 times, every time you get an item and the last time you can combine those items to one item. Make multiple of these activities and all the rewards together give you an legendary.
Something like that.
Then it would stay hard it has to be done multiple times. Once you have those items you might still be able to do it for other items. You say the short lifespan would not be worth the work but a lot of jumping puzzles will not be done more then once.
I just read that ‘something like this’ is coming with the new patch.

Or at least, that is what I make out of this sentence.
“We also have plans to add more fun ways to acquire Legendary precursor items with a more “scavenger hunt” feel than they are acquired currently.”
Nice work.
Maybe my suggestions helped, maybe nobody read it. Who knows.
