Don't make jumping puzzles compulsory
100% map completion is not mandatory.
So you are asking for something you already have.

Dismissed as seriously lacking logic. Next!
Some of the jumping puzzles are difficult and do take several attempts to do. Without the Vistas I think the map completion would be too easy. I am just glad there are only a few jumping puzzles you have to get through.
As a side note, if you ever get stuck on a Vista or point of interest for that matter, a lot of them are up on youtube. I’ve hunted a couple down that way in order to save what sanity I had left.
Excuse the kittens outta me??!?!?! I’ve been accused of many things before, but lacking logic is not one of them.
Let me clarify. Completing the map for the zone is not mandatory. The word “need”, in case your English isn’t very good, means that you MUST have something, i.e. that thing is mandatory.
You do not “need” to complete the zone, you WANT to complete it.
Your apology is accepted in advance, no need to humble yourself publicly.
Having said all that, I am not unsympathetic to your plight.
Many of the jumping puzzles in this game tick me off. I despise invisible walls in jumping puzzles. They are sloppy coding. If I can see where to go (i.e there is no visible obstacle in the way) then I should be able to jump there.
ANet needs to get rid of the invisible walls.
Blink and similar spells should be able to be used to complete jumping puzzles as well.
Firstly +1 to Colonel Kernal
Personally I love the jumping puzzles, they’re something original and tbh I like the fact that some of them are pretty tricky, keeps it fun imo.
@Colonel:
100% a map is not mandatory, that’s right. I WANT TO DO IT.
Jumping Puzzles are not mandatory, but some of them I HAVE TO DO, because them being incomplete prevent me from stuff I WANT TO DO, in this case, 100% a map.
Saying I may as well skip on 100% a map just because 1 out of 10 vistas happens to be an elaborate fully fledged jumping puzzle, while the other 9 are a simple low-grade platformer is – ILLOGICAL. Forcing players to play Mario while I wanted to play GuildWars2 is not right in my book.
No apology incoming, Colonel.
Vistas are a lot of fun – and having them for map completion is a good way of making people calm down a bit and stop rushing through the content. Besides they use those vistas to make some interesting out of the way content that gives you a sense of achievement when you find it.
I think the jumping puzzles are great. And Colonel Kernel is right, something you want to do is not something you need to do.
You aren’t required to get the vistas, so it’s not mandatory that you do them. If you want to 100% complete the map, you have to do them. End of line.
Look guy, I am 47 years old. I can’t twitch or rapidly react like most teens who play this game or MMOs in general. I have issues with things like these jumping puzzles, I too despise Mario-esque Platform Jumper games being in “my” MMO. However…
Everyone has different likes and dislikes. These things are in the game cause some people really like the challenges. I have come to somewhat enjoy them although they tend to annoy me greatly, it does add some variety in things you do in this game.
If you don’t like it, skip it. Obviously you like Map Completions, not everyone cares for that, myself included. I don’t bother with it, I only do jumps for skill points and Vistas if I find them amusing.
Bottom line: Deal with it, get over it, move on.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
Having the puzzles there is so much better than just walking up to it and completing it.
I am against this. The only difference between Vistas and all the other little unlocks on the map is that some of them are tough to get to, and getting 100% unlocked should have its challenges. Those occasional vistas that take a lot of determination to get to are no different than any other challenging aspect of a game — some people will give up and walk away, but the people who stick with it will feel a sense of accomplishment when they finally get through it. Points of Interest and Vistas are designed to encourage exploration, and exploration should be more than just a checklist of places to run to. You don’t really tell stories about going to Rome if you never left the hotel.
All that said, they could definitely tighten up the camera and terrain in these areas to make it more forgiving, though. Jumping puzzles in game engines without physics can be frustrating…add in a wonky camera, and some people are probably going to be pulling their hair out.
I love challenging Vistas and jumping puzzles. Probably the most innovative thing Anet did (turn jumping into a sport). Anyhow, I think they should make Vistas more difficult (And I am sure many people will agree). If my 60 year old father in law can do it (still pecks, clicks, and uses a ball mouse…anyone can).
Oh, and BTW Anet…thank you for updating the sky jumping puzzle in Metrica Providence (2nd air vine). Me and my father in law had a blast trying to figure out that one.
The issue for me,isnt the fact that it is a jump puzzle. Its the fact that 90% of them seem to have some sort of glitch. Invisable wall, blocking me from moving,or jumping. Char stopping mid jump, and just falling. Char LANDING ON THE area, then falling through. Not jumping far,or high enough, when you clearly made your char do so.
All sorts of them, and it doesnt happen all the time.
Personally I hated vistas. Please don’t make these mandatory.

I hate to be ‘that guy’ (actually, i love being ‘that guy’) but your pedantry is flawed. If you’d paid attention to the use of English you’d know that it’s incredibly common for people to use the word need for something that isn’t necessary but they have a strong desire for. Under the defining criteria of what is and isn’t correct use of language common use trumps all and thus need also means a strong desire. We should also pay attention to the context in which it occured, OP said s/he needs to do the jumping puzzles for 100% map completion which funnily enough doesn’t even use the word need in the manner you were criticising the OP for.
Obviously you were trying to appear superior to the OP yet failed to even understand the sentence. Next time i’d suggest not doing so as if that’s your method of self-satisfaction you really need to sort your life out.
Anyway, as for jumping puzzles they do infuriate me sometimes yet other times it’s amused me trying to show people how to get up places yet they still fail. I’m not sure if i’m going to even go for 100% map completion yet even though i’ve completed a fair few areas. Having them linked to achievements is a necessity otherwise they might as well be removed and while part of me doesn’t want them for map completion it does make sense especially with vistas considering the panning that takes place.
I think i’m sitting on the fence.
just get a mesmer to port you to the end.

Sinzer you remind me of my friend David. He likes to be that guy too.
I’m glad you pointed this out. I do not like it when people nitpick on someone’s English just because they don’t like what someone’s is say. Oops or should I say typing.
I don’t like it even more when that person is wrong on what there nitpicking about.
Ok for the topic I think we all need to go play Mario to hone are jumping skills.
So we don’t get post like this anymore. I know I am pulling out my old NES lol.

Next thing you realize you have to go into WvW so you start complaining about the “required pvp”. Your idea is dismissed because the suggestion is not rational. Thread closed.
Thing is, you want to play a game of map completion, you have to play by the rules. You can’t start playing socces and then pick up the ball because you’re not good with kicking a ball around.

It’d be funny if i was your friend David but i’m not lol. I’m quite laid back when it comes to people’s use of language i just don’t like it when people try to belittle others through correcting what they perceive are mistakes even though it doesn’t stop anyone from understanding what’s being said.
I don’t find the jumping puzzles worse than playing sonic though. That game is evil!
Vistas are the easy jumping puzzles. Hard jumping puzzles don’t count in map completion.
