Downed state in pvp good or bad?
I have actually faced it where… I get put into a downed state, they hit me just a few times to lower my health, and then the people run off…
So this way I can’t get back in combat right away and the healing is so slow in a downed state that I have to slowly die or slowly live… either way its SLOWLY.
So maybe in addendum to your comments… if OOC in downed state make it where you can quickly get back up.
I agree with your concerns about downed state in pvp, for pve i love it, but in pvp its odd.
Its another factor that largely favors bigger groups (in wvw), rally makes it nearly impossible to beat a big group and downed skills are pretty unbalanced between the different classes.
Because of this i’d love to see it being removed, maybe some spike damage would need to be adjusted, along with more defense options for classes that have none/few.
For your suggestion 1, i think that could be abused in wvw. 2 and 3 could alleviate the problem, but i would prefeer a clean cut.
I liked downed state, it brings more “skill” to a fight, especially team based fights. You can have 2 enemies alive, 1 ally and 1 in downed state and the player in downed state and ally is wiser than the enemies can end up winning cause he knows how to prolong his death or play better and it really turns the fight around, or for example as a thief (teleport up to the next floor).
TL:DR Downed state adds more skill and allows you to turn a fight around, I like it personally
Its a big part of pve gameplay and if they were to remove it, it would seem very weird. I dont play much pvp but if there are legitmate concerns about downed state there at worst I would say maybe some rebalancing should be done but it would be wrong to just cut that gameplay feature out of an entire mode of play just because

I don’t see how it adds more skill to a fight. You were doing bad enough to find yourself in a downstate in the first place.
They could remove downstate and give people a little more health to compensate, and achieve basically the same thing — Give people a few more seconds to fight.
Downstate is fine, rallying is the issue.
The devs don’t care about WvW so I’m gonna kill players in PvE!
Downed state should be removed in WvW and sPvP. It is fine in PvE.

No. It’s annoying in PVE too. It’s pointless because it seems to draw agro, so you die before you can even do anything useful unless you happen to rally.
Downed state does not draw additional aggro according to the tables. You’re just most likely going to die if your enemy isn’t already at a really low health.

It’s simple really and you apparently are not able to grasp the concept. The more there is to a fight (wither it’s key binds, the complexity of the class compared to another) all goes to total skill. (how much better you perform over others mainly). If you can preform better than someone alive and down them, great, if you can do it in the downed state, great again.
Example, as a thief I can be “downed” at the same time as a warrior. If I’m wise I can use my teleport twice and blind and allow his vengeance to wear off and kill himself. Situations like this where you can wisely preform over others in team fights can really change an outcome when it looks like your going to lose.
Edit: adding more health and removing it altogether defeats the purpose of having it in the first place, it was meant to be in the game for a reason. Second chance card. I don’t mind it.

I don’t think that’s wise, it’s simply a class advantage. Everyone does not have the same down skills and many are just downright useless.

Well people think I downed my foe, I WON his hp bar reached zero!
well that’s the PvE way of thinking, In PvP People aren’t defeated yet before they are, well… defeated.
You have to see the downstate as just a new phase your foe gets into, like a boss in PvE.
I dont think its a pve way of thinking, i play pvp mmos for some years now and when my healthbar reaches zero, i’m defeated…
If anet wants the downed state to be a new phase of the battle, then they should make it balanced for all classes and look into the rally mechanics as well (see the reasons given above).
One thing i would suggest if downed would be removed is to increase the overall revive speed to get dead allies back into the game (along with more health/defenses).
lol they don’t need to add health or defenses to get rid of down state… in a lot of the mmorpgs u can get one shot by an assassin or ranger and your dead unless you are a tank or buffed out the wahzoo… I don’t need more defense or health I do just fine even if they get rid of the down state
I always find theses threads amusing when I see them. To keep it simple downing someone is not a kill and for you to ever be happy you need to get this idea.
If you want to compare this to other mmos in gw2 your equivalent health is the bar for both standing AND downed. If you think about it logically in gw2 you get weakened for the last quarter or so of your health bar, but in return everyone of your party members effectively get a super heal they can use on you. I think this is a neat solution to the help the fact there are no healers.

Why do people believe this? More factors = more randomness = less skill. Ever play an FPS? It’s simple AND skillful. Some MMOs have 3-4 classes with a handful of mechanics and are much more skillful than GW2 in regards to 1 vs 2+.

Yes…the imbalance is just stupid. I fought 2 people today and was downed then teleported and blinded to prevent 2 stomps. 2 of my teammates showed up to fight and I avoided 4 more stomps(not joking) over the course of the fight. Sure, they should have just attacked instead of stomping and killed me(although how often does a thief avoid 6 stomps?) but why are down states so screwed up? If I down a guardian and I’m low health then I can’t stomp unprotected, or I’ll be downed and he’ll res. Same with rangers and warriors getting vengeance. Necros drop your health a ton if you get anywhere near them. Eles get invulnerable and movement, thieves teleport/stealth and mesmers clone/stealth themselves. These last 3 favor team fights but the other 4 favor downing someone who’s downed you and then ressing yourself. Where was the logic in any of this?
