Dueling, Trading, Following System and Mounts
+1 for the Dueling system, I think this would help alot of people who want there to be more of an open-world PvP system.
+1 for the Follow feature.
The trading system I find mostly unnecessary anymore because anything I want I can buy on the TP, or mail between my IRL friends. However, I see how some people might want this.
Mounts
My friend and I were talking the other day about how we would love to see mounts in the game, but only as a cosmetic item, i.e. they are another prestige thing you can get like minipets or weapon skins. They would provide no movement speed bonuses or anything of that sort, and thats not really a problem because waypoints are literally everywhere. If mounts were implemented in this way, I would be fine with them.
As far as dragons as mounts goes, absolutely not. For two reasons:
1. Dragons are the absolute most evil things to exist in the world of GW2. This isn’t like other MMOs where dragons are “everyday” mythical beings that you can stumble across and are violent, but mostly “unaligned” (to use D&D terms). Dragons are evil. Owning one is completely impractical within the GW lore.
2. Dragons are not populous. The Elder Dragons are the only dragons we have seen beyond their direct, and very powerful (from a lore standpoint, not actual game mechanics standpoint), minions. This means that there are something like 12 known dragons in the entire GW2 world (5 Elder’s, 3 Champions in the Arah story mode, Shatterer, Claw of Jormag, and Tequatl). People see dragons in the game and automatically jump to “I want to ride dragons”. But implementing a way to actually acquire a dragon mount would have to rip their established lore apart.
Additionally, I am completely against flying mounts in this game, and a dragon mount that couldn’t fly is just a horse with wings.

Ah, I didn’t yet heard anything from dragons in my personal story so I didn’t know that. With that being said I have changed my mind about adding dragon mount
Thanks for you response tough.
About the Trading System: Is there like a possibility on Trading Post or using Mail already that you could request item for item? Because that’s my main idea for the Trading System.
- Dueling System:
The devs are going to implement “rented” servers for sPVP where you can set your rules, for example making a match 1vs1. Dueling in the middle of nowhere doesn’t make much sense and if they ever do something like that it must be a “flag” to set if you duel, by default the flag is “off” and if anyone ever wants to duel set it to “on” and wait for someone that wants a duel, I don’t want duel request spam and I really don’t like dueling in the middle of nowhere, dueling in sPVP is fine, I always try to get 1vs1 fights anyway.
- Trading System:
The reason they won’t add that is because they want the fees from the TP, so I don’t see anyway to add direct trading. Also, it will lead to amazing spam of WTS/WTT/WTB all over LA which is ridiculous. We already have enough LFM spammers for Fractals.
- Following System:
If Elementalist skills like Ride the Lightning and Magnetic Grasp are an indication of how pathfinding works in this game, then I wouldn’t want to follow anyone anywhere. Now if they fixed their pathfinding issues why not.
- Mounts:
Nope not needed at all, there are lots of discussions about mounts around here
For PvP They should just add Dueling, and add instant ques for 1v1 2v2 3v3 and 5v5 Deathmatch because i like how the game plays and how fights flow like your facing a boss in RP games but i don’t really care for King of the hill and Capture the Base type modes, some people do so im not saying get rid of them im saying just not force everyone to play that type of PVP

If they are really making rented servers then this is really stupid. Maybe fighting in middle of nowhere doesn’t make sense, but it’s fun. Dueling in Cities could be disallowed.
- Trading System:
Fees could be added on trades too. Or they can somehow add trading items function which could be useful.
- Mounts:
I am aware that it’s not needed, but what does it cost them to make mounts? Nothing and if they just give a little movement speed that wont even effect the gameplay much. Basically mounts are something that you can only enjoy in and afterall they look cool.
I think that the mounts should be collectible like the “minis”. There should be a spectrum of difficulties in which you can achieve them and there should be a large variety of mount-types. Since they wouldn’t really give an unfair speed advantage (considering there are waypoints everywhere) to any players, I don’t see the harm in adding a good chunk of them for cosmetic value.. Id love to get me a Dolyak I could ride around or smthing. haha
I feel as though mounts should be a collectible as Albocow said like minis. But they should be enabled for PvE and WvW because it is a pain in the kitten to get around in WvW even with waypoints.

Ye, that would be good. There could aswell be special skills when on mounts like underwater etc. or you should actually go off the mount to fight.
NO following system. It promotes laziness plus it will make GW2 just another Asian MMO. Soon after that you will ask to follow NPCs and enemies and the ultimate lazy-guy feature: auto route on the map by clicking a location.
No thank you. You either play or stay, as simple as that.
NO trading system. You want to give someone something, give it free or if not sell it in TP. I cant laugh more of those complaining about the fees. You sell one item like 10x more than the vendor price and you are bothered by a 3% fee? Man, you are really greedy, you know that?
Dueling system will be added, so no need to say anything about it.
Mounts, probably if the new zones will require them: different planet, different continent, etc.

Your kinda true about the following system.
OK about the trading system, I don’t complain about the fees, only that you could trade items for items with maybe additional fees set on the level of the items being traded, but ok whatsoever..
Dueling system: Is this already announced somewhere? If you could post a link or something.. And when is it coming?
Mounts: I hope so
No flying mounts EVER! No under water mounts. No mounted combat. If anet ever released mounts (which they wont as they’ve already said they have no plans to release mounts as this game really doesn’t need them) then they should be ground only mounts (as any flying mount would completely ruin the style of the game. The maps are too small for mounts let alone flying mounts. They would also need to only give a small speed increase say like 15% else alot of traits, spells that give you speed would become near to useless.
There are no plans for dueling as far as i’m aware and if there was i’m sure it’d be at the bottom of their list to do. Instead we will see custom arenas where you can rent a SPvP server and do whatever you want with it, including 1v1 battles.
(edited by EliteZ.1682)
jonathan sharp talked about dueling in a conference call with gw2guru and its on youtube. it is on their list for the coming updates, but they ranked it as less important than other features they are including to try and get gw2 spvp to become an esport
Follow, I can agree to. And maybe lowering the priority of Esc cancelling autorun. I’m so used to breaking target with it as is that I keep randomly stopping myself mid-run.
Dueling is already coming. If they did introduce it open-world, I’d enjoy – like I stated in another thread – a system that could allow party members to take part in it, which allows a 5v5 (or less, obv) PvP scenario pretty much wherever. But I won’t complain if it’s the rent-out instance thing, because that’s pretty much close enough.
Trading… Eh. Add a CoD function to the mail system and you pretty much have it. An actual trade would just be a duplicate of mail.
Mounts. No. No. Nonono. No. Hell no. No. … No.
… Okay, in seriousness, I wouldn’t mind them cosmetically, but little more. The most I would be okay with in movement bonus is a Swiftness mirror that doesn’t fade until dismounting. I’m a firm believer in how well they’ve made Tyria feel large, and hastening that with mounts would tarnish that. (Waypoints are discouraged by their cost, and aren’t particularly reliable in late-game anyway, so that’s fine; Equate those to flight points)
And hey, for extra credit, make mounts vehicular in mechanic – treat them like Bundles. That already opens the gates for potential mounted combat. (Come to think of it, having special weapon skills or even weapon types while mounted could be kinda cool. But that has nothing to do with their mobility.)
