Why are they called bags of gold?

This is misleading! It should be called a “Bag of Silver”

Who agrees?

be thankful, before the patch hit they used to give 2 or 3 copper, 4 if your lucky.
i used to wonder if there was just a 1% chance to get like 1g from them but i guess not.

It should be called “bag of lies”.

Actually, “bag of coins” would probably sound better and be more descriptive.

The real question, though, is why do they exist at all. Why don’t you simply get the coins straight from the blue boss satchel, or indeed directly from the boss, when you loot. As they exist, the “bags of gold” are just a useless intermediate step requiring two extra mouse clicks and one extra inventory slot.

I feel like it’s the illusion of a reward. You feel like you’re getting more than what you actually are because it comes in a pretty little satchel which you then open.

The first time I came across this item, it gave me a whooping 3 copper. That was before they implemented those bags, now it gives between 2 and 4 silvers.

I’m only responsible for what I say, not for what you understand.

I agree. It’s probably a psychological thing they studied to trick their player-base.
ANet – “How can we make our players think they’ll get gold, when they really won’t”
Employee – “Simple. Call it a ‘Bag of Gold.’”
ANet – “Genius! You’ve got yourself a promotion.”
But we’re like;
“OH hey guys! Lets do a dungeon – we get this whopping big bag of money-flowing gold.”

Why not just add it into our amount instead of making us open the bags? Takes up space and time.

if it dropped from the boss you would earn more money because it will be affected by food buffs like Omnomberry Bars.
the food has no effect on the bag.

no farming allowed remember.

They could mitigate that easily though – I just find it extremely misleading by calling it a bag of gold when it clearly isn’t! That’s like working hard during the Summer for an XBox360 and then getting one of those prehistoric PS3s.
