I’ve recently started playing this game as a newfag and my friends keep telling me that this game is going to die out soon.
After thinking for a while about this, I figured that there isn’t really something that keeps the competition going, which might ultimately lead to the game dying out.
The reason World of Warcraft has been a top game for so long is the amount of competition in arenas and raid progress end game. Wowprogress keeps every guild in the world in a competition for getting through all the raids as soon as possible. The gladiator rewards keep pvpers going. There are even realm first achievements that keep people on their toes.(I know what I’m saying, I was one of the best Death Knights for a long time in my realm within weeks after Cataclysm’s release.)
There doesn’t seem to be any pressure in this game. Achievements don’t even show the date that you earned them.
Perhaps a dungeon tracker and something like that for pvp would be good. Also having achievements show their dates would be great. Many people would go for hard ones for bragging purposes and saying things like ‘ha! I did it a day before you!’ I didn’t earn all the Mad King achievements this year just for new players to end up exactly like me next year.
This would put a bit of pressure into the game.
First of all… Don’t worry about if the game is going to die or not. There are hundreds of people in AN that work to not let it happend. They know a lot about mmos so don’t worry! Really!
About the other sruff… Yes the game needs to have some goal and this is what gw lacks.
What I’ll like to see is some big scale quests that make you travel through a large chunks of the world (like story quests) and give you miningfull reword at the end.
