I know some will not like this suggestion as they have a bit of gold tied up in, but the cost of dye is ridiculous. 20g or 15g for others for the good dyes is a gold drainer for me and I’m sure other true casual players.

I have a harder time inviting friends to the game when I see things like this get severely out of control. (not just dyes, trade market in general) I realize there are players with hundreds of gold, but the items like these should be realistically obtainable without a huge time sync.

Increase the drop rate… A LOT please

You don’t have to buy the expensive dyes. For example, if you want a black dye you don’t have to go buy Abyss for 20g, you can buy Pitch (which is a good substitute for the blacker dyes) for 88s.

I realize I don’t HAVE to buy it, but I want it because for some reason Abyss is black and black is a dark gray (or so it seems). My point was it would nice to see these drop rates increased so all players (not just rich ones) could customize them the way they want.

Fixed it for you. Being a person without Abyss, Celestial, or any other fancy dyes on his main, I’d say no to this suggestion. Like every other cosmetic feature in this game is designed, work for it.

I work for a living, not a game. I played years ago in MMO’s as a hard core gamer, and those years are done, like I said I’m pretty casual now so gold is not easy to come by. Cosmetic items should not be out of reach for casual players.

I guess this will be the first and last time offering a suggestion as people just come in here and bash instead of respecting other players opinions and play style. arrg.

As a casual gamer myself, I see what you are saying. But if you need that must have item, you can always buy gems/ convert them to gold which is really high right now and buy the item you want.

$25 for something you really want in game to make your experience the way you want and not having to do the grind is well worth it in my mind.

I’d like to see drop rates back to what they were at launch. First week of September I got about 2 a day when I played 2-3 hours/day. When they increased the drop rates weeks ago I got 4 or 5 in a 45 minute play session. I definetly don’t want that kind of DR but that weekend was REALLY fun lol.

I’m playing 6 hrs + /day now due to my recovery and I’m going 2-3 days between drops. My guildmates call me lucky.

I’d like to see the drop rates back to what they were before the accidental increase in drop rate. When they “fixed” this, the drop rate did not decrease back to what it originally was; they set it far lower.

Drop rates have been reduced drastically, no word from ArenaNet as to why or what the purpose was l guess.

As a person who loves to collect dyes and mess with color combinations, I am simply no longer able to do that. I have x6 amount of dyes unlocked from drops on my first character, as compared to my newest (already almost lvl 80) ranger.

I no longer get anything other than common dyes.

Recently I had to start selling my unidentified dyes for profit, so I could buy the colors I want. It’s really expensive. I don’t even want to think about setting myself a goal such as a Bifrost, as the market is ridiculous at the moment.

From getting my character 1-70 I got around 4 dyes. I gathered in every area I’ve visited. I really wish they would do something about the unidentified dyes drops.

Get us a dye vendor (no one is going to craft their dyes, as they take insane amounts of already really expensive mats), change the drop rate, or improve the rarity chance of the discovered dyes.

Oh, and if Anet isn’t going to do that, I wish they made the dyes account bound.

I don’t want to “work for it.”
I want to actually play the game, instead of working for things. Especially since it seems that “working for things in a game” is what Anet is making me do more and more.

How much time do you actually spend “playing” in Guild Wars 2 now?

Things become harder to reach for players, and not in a good way. It is a lazy man’s way to decrease drop rates, without providing sufficient places to grind for them (hello Anet’s policy!). Ridiculously low drop rates lead to grind, because many people aren’t able to afford items listed at the Black Lion Trading Company. Not everyone is here to play the auction house game (where you get your dyes from now).

Truth be told… I don’t see the problem.

You can yell “GIVE ME” all you want, but you can’t have everything for free.
People are waiting for paychecks on the other end of the game, maintaining servers and working on patches/bug fixing etc (which have been lackluster).

If you want everything handed to you from the beginning, then an MMO might not be for you as the basic principle of many MMORPG’s is to work for the good stuff. I don’t like it, but that’s the way it is. Want to craft good armors? Well then you better spend a lot of time in front of the crafting table. Want to find good loot? Then you better spend some time getting your magic-find % up while doing dungeon runs.

But yeah, considering that the drop-rates for unidentified dyes seem to have gone to hell and bellow, I wouldn’t mind an increase.

I will say however that when the game starts feeling like a chore, then it’s best to take a break for a while and do something else.

I’ve unlocked ~340 dyes on my guardian (including black, white, celestial and abyss), but i got bored with the class and plan to remake the character as a warrior. As you imagine all of the dyes gonna go to waste since I want to use the same name (and I wouldnt go back to guardian anyways) :S
Now I’m never gonna get those dyes again. Not any time soon at least.

I think it would be great idea to improve the drop rate significantly

OR

decrease it even more and make dyes account-bound.

I work for a living, not a game.

Choosing work over the game doesn’t mean the game should be made any easier~
It means you made your choice and need to accept the sacrifices – Like having less time to work for the luxurious game features you want.

Plus, if you work more, you’re more likely to have extra money lying around. GEMS FOR GOLD!

Most likely the reason they drastically decreased the drop rates for dye is to keep dye “worth something” in the economy.

And they’ll likely do it again in the future.

Imagine, each character only needs ONE of each dye to unlock it permanently.

Abyss is a very popular dye (which I think I got randomly and just consumed it instantly on my main) because it’s “black.”

Black and white dyes in GW1 were always the most expensive (mostly because they were rarer than the others…) Red was the most expensive “common” dye. (just like Red dyes seem to be somewhat pricey in GW2, from what I’ve heard)

I’d say dyes in GW2 currently drop about as often as in GW1 (with the exception of pre-Searing Ascalon, dye drops were a rarity).

The fact is: GW2 dyes are permanent unlocks per character. GW1 dyes were a one-use consumable. You often had to mix them with other colors to get the specific hue that you wanted. (Which was part of the fun, in my opinion.)

But in GW1, dying gear was much more of a gold sink. You could mix as many as 4 dyes on one piece of armor. (adding 2 reds with a white would give a different color than a red and a white, for example) And so, you’d need as many as 20 dyes to change the color of an entire armor set.

But still, this didn’t keep the price of common dyes from dropping to the minimum trader price of 100g (which is about equivalent to 1 silver in GW2).

If you can wait, dye prices will eventually drop. It’s just a matter of time. Dyes still drop. People will eventually unlock all the dyes on their mains and start selling the extras.

Please note:

Chefs can make Dyes that are able to be (Rare) that is, you have a chance of getting either a blue, green OR gold dye and you can choose the hue range you’d like (Purple, Red, Green, Blue, Grey, Yellow, Orange) – If you’re having a hard time, find a chef, get the mats and get them to make the dye in it’s Unidentified Version and send it back to you. I offer this service to people when they ask.

You provide the mats, OR you can buy my mats

So it doesn’t really need a drop rate upgrade.
