Elite Skill Slot
Allot of elite skills are much more situational then all others because of it they are such log cooldown. Every elite skill is made for a particular situation that gw2 developers thought the elite would be good to use in. But I agree with a point that elite skills can be very useless in 90% of the cases and I don’t like it. They should include this capability but they won’t. Because such a huge change will raise chaos within the community. Just think about it! More people will complain then would be present of this.
I would like that feature but its a NoNo
Guard(dhuum), Mesmer(Lyssa), Warrior(Dwaina)
Lvl50 Fractal, Lvl531 WvW
The worst part about Elites is that most of them are Summons and Shapeshifts.
I don’t want a stupid AI Bot on my side – If I liked that I would’ve played a Ranger.
Shapeshifts also don’t come in handy, as you cannot heal while transformed and you can’t pick up allies who are downed.
For me as a Nekro this is annoying: I have 1 Summon and 2 Shapeshifts with Huge cooldowns. I always bring the “Take Root” Sylvari Elite, at least this gives me 3 secs of Invuln. that I can time with a big attack (The turrets are a nice addition, but usually die pretty fast)
With most classes you just feel like theres no real decision to be made, which Elite to bring, as there is most likely 1 good-decent one and the rest is all crap.
GW1 had short recharged elites that you could build your character around, depending on how you wanted to develop your play style and build. Many could be used regularly, such as Glimmer of Light or Searing flames or Dragon slash. That is what I liked about GW1 which I wish they would of incorporated into GW2. For those of you unfamiliar with GW1 GW1eliteskills
The Elite skills found in GW1 were added into GW2 as a special skill.
Example:
Eviscerate – GW1 costs 8 Adrenal – GW2 costs 3 Adrenal as a Burst Skill
And there are others scattered around every profession.
In GW2, it seems that Anet wants the Elite Skills to be a scale-tipper rather than just another powerful skill.
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.
An “i win” button fits in more with a generic MMO than it does an action based one like Guild Wars 2. Many elite skills are useless. Shorter cooldowns or the ability to fit an extra utility slot there would be more beneficial than waiting for the perfect time to use an elite, drawing out longer periods of time between use. That is why everyone takes the shortest cooldown elite. Or ones that give relatively long term passive buffs such as signet of rage or rampage as one.
Some few elites are very good. Most are just awful kitten. The thing I miss most from GW1 is deciding what skill to put in every slot. The choice of slot a terrible elite or nothing makes me sad.
That is what I enjoyed about GW1 as well, but I would rather put an extra utility skill there on my guardian than bring any of his elites. Most are situational at best.
Nearly every one of my GW1 builds had an elite skill at it’s core. I find I rarely use my Elites here… but for the most part I’m fairly happy with my Elites on the characters that have them so far… Granted I only use Racial Elites since none of my Class Elites are worth using.
Changes definitely need to be made to get elite skills up to par with the gameplay style of the rest of the game.
I basically only use Rampage as One for the stability where it’s required (running past mobs etc).
The Guardian Elites seem pretty solid, though the Tome Elite skills feel a little gimmicky outside of soloing given that they are easy to counter and have considerable cooldown time. Renewed Focus is a no-brainer and I expect I would continue to use it religiously even if I had the option of equipping an additional Utility power.
An extra elite power or two to choose from and/or a retooling of the powers that are “too situational” would be a wiser option, imo. Enabling a fourth Utility slot would be both somewhat bland and likely to necessitate a lot of tweaks to ensure there aren’t any broken combinations that a fourth slot would enable.

Exactly what I was thinking. It would feel pretty lazy to just slap another utility slot option than fix the elites. Its exactly the same idea of why no new zones are being opened (SSC hardly a new zone, more of an open pve living story instance). They are working on the current content before releasing new content which hopefully includes elite skills and a few racial elite skill tweaks (should either be weak but shorter cd or actually worthwhile and long cd).
New elite skills along with adjustments to some of the current ones would be optimal imo. Some elite skills, unless changed entirely, simply don’t fit some builds (profession elites). There should be an elite skill to fulfill them whether a powerful strike or boons or enviromental weapon.
However the biggest thing I miss from gw1, isn’t even the optional elites or how many they had. It was actually looking for a specific enemy to learn it from. Idk why they took that feature out ; ; it added some sense of evolving to the game that was adventurous and enjoyable. Now we just click some button and learn it.. pshh
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”

Good work on finally giving elementals an underwater elite skill.
i replied to a post saying exactly the same thing and then 2 minutes later found this post. The threads should be merged or everyone should reply to the one thread so that it gets the max amount of attention and Devs might notice it.
