Elite/second Professions

Now wait….You cant just go from an Ele who wears light armor to an Obi tank that wears heavy . Your ele would lose all their armor that you spent all that money on gearing up . Additionally no class should be based on race as you seem to be implying with the priest
did you read the sugestion again? o.O
its not a full class… its an addon to your current class to allow futher character costomisation…
would you aruge that there shouldnt be any race bound skills either then?
and seriously… it takes aproximately an hour to make gold for an exotic armor… so i really have a hard time seeing the issue o.O

Upgrading your armor type while still keeping all the advantages of your original class is substantial power creep; that’s the equivalent of several hundred free attribute points.
Other than that, why do you feel this is better than simply getting new weapons and skills that fall within the existing framework? I believe ArenaNet has said in the past that they intend to add new weapons and skills for each profession.
The advantages should of course be changed, i am just not sure how and it might have to depend on each class.
Why? because the current character customization is a joke… it would be nice to see more possibilities and options in how to use your weapons…
A new weapon, means 5 new possible skills… This would mean x4 the amount of weapon skills for each class…
this would also make it possible for people to focus on what they like to do… in stead of binding the class up, in a way that its so inflexible…
For instance, half the elementalists playing, at the very best, can figure out how to use their profession mechanics… making it so, they can focus on one element, (5 skills) instead of all of them (20 skills), would make it possible for the elementalists to do what they like (focusing), and be good at it, instead of doing what they like, and being kicked for it…

I’m not sure how the advanced classes help in this regard, since you said profession mechanics don’t change, just armor class and weapons, at least the way I read it. Can you go into more detail on this?

What I tried to say there was, that first reference was a mistake, and should probably have been: The balancing doesn’t necessarily have to depend on the profession mechanics.
I’ll admit that it probably should change for all of them, and it might be a good thing if that happened… having 7 different profession mechanics to chose between, instead of 1… would make thing more interesting… so yes your right… im sorry for the confusion :P

A new skill presumably takes the same amount of work to make whether it’s part of a new weapon or a new “elite class”, so you’re not magically going to get more total skills by asking for new classes with 20 skills each instead of new weapons with 2-5 skills each. In fact, you’ll probably get a lot fewer skills for a very long time, because they’d have to release a bunch of elite classes all at once, whereas new weapons could be released more gradually, and therefore some of them could be released earlier.
An option to replace your profession mechanic is probably a non-starter, since that would invalidate huge swathes of the current trait design. I’d also argue that if you don’t like the profession mechanic of your current profession, you’re probably playing the wrong profession.
Homogenisation wouldn’t be fun in my opinion.
The relatively solid balance would be thrown off, or at least much harder to maintain.
It sounds cool, but when you consider the truths above, I for one am not particularly keen for this.
If it could be done without homogenization and massive balance issues though, I’m absolutely all for it.
I never mentioned a time frame, i mentioned it would be nice to get more character costomisation. give it a year or two…. have asome patience with the poor hardworking Anet…
I do not care weather you like it or not.. I didnt post it here for an “oppinion”… I postedit here for having someoe to Work with me and make a solid sugestion from this fleeting thought… you Guys have shot that to the ground by yor "I DONT LIKE THIS “reaction”… sigh… once Again i am reminded why i stay aware from forums…

Dear Op first of all when you write on the forums you do it to hear people’s opinion.
Secondly.
Your suggestion lack some details which makes me unable to deiced when ever I like this or not.
1# The consideration of the dis balance it would cause.
2# I do not see in what way this can contribute to the game.
3# it seems like to me that you mostly only have made this suggestion because of something related to the elementalist game play? My apology if I misunderstood you there.
4# Please give a more detailed version for this elite profession idea of yours.
5# I do not believe the current professions should be allowed to switch armor type they wear.
I hope you can use this in a constructive way to improve this little project of yours.
