You can’t spell Slaughter without Laughter
I came up with this idea in a more Ranger pets thread. But it would easily apply to all classes and potentially beyond too.
The idea is to seed npcs thru high level zones for new content/skill acquisition. Each npc would offer a challenge similar to current skill point challenges, but with a few distinctions.
1 the npc would teach you a new elite skill. This skill would be class specific, race specific, or generic for everyone. Beating the challenge would unlock the skill and let you purchase it for skill points (or be like mistwolf and free once unlocked dev balance tests would determine)
2 accepting the challenge would transport you to a private instance. Fully solo. This is to prevent zerg completions or piggybackers who come in and tag the challenge after you have soloed it to gain completion at no effort. Would also allow challenges to be fine tuned and made to feel like a learning experiance based around how the new skill works.
These type of challenges could start of small adding a generic elite here and there, as wellas ffold into potential expansions. They would also add a low bases for why you character hasn’t had access to that skill since day one of the game. Especially with Living story the potental is there for events and npcs to give rise to new skills.
Due to the mission like nature these would obviously take more time to build and would not be surprised to see only generic elites added at first. Classes would require 8 seperate missions and more likely to go into expansion scope. Race based would onlt be 5 still hefty but possible for the free updates even if unlikely.
As mentioned earlier I came up with this talking about ranger pets, possible new class elites could be for rangers a skill that gives you a new pet who would effectively have two f2 skills, the normal one and the elite after its called out.
Engies could be some new tech introduced ti the world. Etc
Anyway hope you like the idea as a good way to add skills and explain why you didn’t know that skill before.
