So yeah… please to be sending emails before changes that mean that could cost players money.

I’m primarily frustrated here because I’m normally on Fort Aspenwood, it’s where my guild is based and all that, but one of my friends got the game bought for them for christmas and we wanted to party up. Because guesting wasn’t active yet, I jumped servers temporarily with plans to move back when it was.

Then I get an email yesterday telling me that I have to move servers by the day before I received the email or I would have to pay. I’ve already contacted billing about this and I’ve been advised that because I don’t look at the website (because I don’t really ever need to) and I didn’t see an announcement on the launcher (because mine is set to auto-login and auto-play which are in-built features), I have to pay the full cost for a server transfer.

All because the email announcing the change wasn’t sent before the change occurred. This seems like it would be a very simple matter of sending a very, very slightly modified version of the email distributed yesterday, a week earlier.

I’m not really sure why this needs to be a forum thread, but it’s what the billing department has told me to do.

so you chose not to look or read anything and now you want anet to change things? Whats to stop you from not reading spam emails? Sorry this is on you. No change needed.

Anet has shown that they can send out a simple email.

My expectation is that when a company is making a change that will affect it’s players they do their best to advise them before the change. I have my spam filter set so that emails from places that I want to hear from don’t get filtered out.

In fact, as soon as they sent the email I was immediately aware of a change that I was completely unaware of for two weeks. It’d be different if say the launch screen announcements appeared on the character screen or the like, but they don’t.

And yes, I chose to use a feature that Arenanet incorporated into their launcher that resulted in the foreseeable consequence that I don’t see announcements through it.

To be honest, given the ease with which information can be disseminated via email I am honestly surprised that this isn’t a part of the standard operating procedure for when announcing things such as this.

Now, I had no intention of coming on to the forums about this. I just wanted to have the issue resolved and have been told by an Arenanet representative that the only way that the request for “announcement emails should sent prior to what they are announcing” can reach the relevant department is to come and complain about it on the forums, rather than just a simple webform…

Because I don’t really ever need to.

I’d say this whole situation proves that you do need to.

They did give plenty of notice.
