Endgame: reverse the story.
I’m not opposed to the idea, I think stuff like that is always fun. Howeverrrr, and I’m only going to touch on this little bit of info here: Anet doesn’t want a rift in the community.
Even in GW1, some people went a little overboard with the Kurzick/Luxon factions. I imagine that played a fairly significant role in deciding against having factions that might pit the players against each other.
If they wanted Carebear: Carealot, they screwed up and added WvWvW and sPvP.
They really need to start thinking outside the box at this point. It’s been 2 months, and people are begging for something to do.

You really don’t see how, by having Wv3 and sPvP instanced away from the normal PvE world that they’re preserving the PvE experience for people who don’t want to get ganked?
Plus, that’s not what OP is suggesting.

If I understand it right, choosing a side would be like flagging, if you don’t want to be “ganked” don’t flag?
My point about pvp, was that the “anet doesn’t want a rift in the community” which is done alone by sPvP, tPvP and WvW.
Instanced PvP doesn’t create a community rift. The “community” in this context is limited to the one you directly interact with, i.e. your server. PvP creates a rift as much as shoving spaghetti down my pants creates food in my stomach. It makes even less sense to say that about WvW as your ENTIRE SERVER is on one side.
I’m not going to disagree that a lot of people are looking for more things to do than farm Orr/Dragons but honestly the entire game levels you out so that you don’t outgrow anything. Yes there should probably be some more PvE content to do with some less mundane rewards but the lack of things to do at the moment comes from a misguided notion that max level = extra content.
Enabling PvP in general throughout PvE areas would create a rift, as ANET would more than likely have to label servers as dedicated PvP servers where you can’t unflag. The elitism that would come from such a setup is what would create a rift.
Also to the OP: calling an MMO of this size an excuse for one is kind of… missing the point? I don’t see how that’s even remotely valid to imply.

Freely being able to switch servers is killing community because “you suck, this servers bad, to many bads”.
This game DOES need more content, 1 level 80 zone is a shame, and visiting low level zones? Sure, why not…Ohwaitnooneisthereanymore! So you are scaled down, can’t solo events, or pinholed in the only zone max level players farm events and dragons whoop-de-do!
We need an ‘evil’ path. After saving the world what we do is pointless. Pvp And www has no purpose, no connection with the lore, nothing to drive players to hunt each other with a competitive spirit. Red vs Blue or Server vs Server just doesn’t fill the spot.

I wasn’t aware of this situation in GW1. And it is a valid argument, therefore the concept should be carefully adopted, so that the community gets only what the community wants.

What I’m suggesting is a hybrid mechanic, a two fold kind:
1.PVE, you do missions for the dark side, assassinate an NPC, take over the camp, sabotage a Pact objective.
You can choose to do the mission undercover, so you are not flagged as an enemy or you can in certain moment unflag, but then you risk to be beaten by the Npc mob and other players alike. It’s your choice how you accomplish the mission.
2.PVP, is limited to certain zones, “hotspots”, usually around the bases of the dark side force, and will be marked clearly on the map with red border.
So that every player is warned in advance not to enter those zones, if you don’t want to get ganked. I imagine that some would probably try anyway to challenge themselves.
Those who are / were playing Warhammer age of reckoning are already familiar with the RvR zones: realm vs REalm.
So 95% of the world zones would remain pvp free.
Also choosing a dark side with one character, wouldn’t define other characters. Freedom of choosing sides stays with each character.

Nothing fills the void. PvE has no progression and very limited skins that take an ungodly amount of time and resources.
sPvP/tPvP. the Call of Duty of GW2. The grind is so obvious there is all of 3-5 games running at any given time, none of them are full.
WvW, kill people, die and then run for 20 minutes to get back in the action again /snore
They fixed a few problems that mmos had, and royally screwed up the rest of the things that were perfectly fine.

Couldn’t agree more, especially the last line..
