Hello GW crew.
Having day/night cycles,weather effects and nicely designed environments with ambient visual and sound effects,is a way of making the game world look more alive.
I suppose that you use such systems and techniques because you care,and because you believe that at least some of your players care.
But at the moment,these systems are so faulty that I can’t see the reason for having them in the game.
I’ve uploaded these short videos,with only a few examples of what is the common ground in each and every zone of GW2.
-Day/night cycle.
1.Each zone has it’s own clock and separate cycle.These zones are supposed to be part of a single persistent world.Do I really have to explain more about this?

2.Also,there is no transition period between day and night.
Suggestion.If you can’t spend time on fixing this,or you are limited by your engine,or whatever,remove it.Make it be always day.It would be better because the current system is that bad.
-Weather and rain effects.
1.The map zones of GW2 are already rather small zones.And weather effects are set to occupy an even smaller space in these zones.
So my first suggestion is to increase a weather effects’ radius by a lot%.,and even more.
Make it at least zone wide.Ideally you should make a weather effect expand along neighboring zones.
2.Now I have to talk about rain effects.
Zone after zone,there’s visual rain effects playing,but there is no sound playing along.
It’s like sound is set to mute.
Or sometimes there is the sound of heavy rain falling,but there is absolutely no visual effect to support this.

-Water effects,visual and audio.
1.If I say that at least 40% of waterfalls and water streams in all of the maps,have no sound effects and are completely mute,I wouldn’t be far from the truth.

2.Now,sound effects of water streams and waterfalls,even when they play,their effective area radius is too small.Suggestion.You need to increase that radius,so you can hear these effects from a greater distance.

3.When you dive into water from a high point there is no splashing sound.
Swimming goggles but no mega splash?

4.The case of water covered but not swimable areas,where the camera is allowed to go under the water surface textures,making it invisible.
This also can be found all over the zones.

Suggestion.Do not allow the camera to go under water textures.
And a comment.
I’ll try and be as civilized as possible.
I just can’t relate the superior graphics quality of the game,with what is more or less,some of the worst environmental effects I’ve ever seen in a MMO.
Even WoW,a 8 year old game does better than this.It looks like it was made in the ice age,but when it rains you run for cover.
In GW2 when it rains you just don’t pay a lot of attention.
If you don’t care about such details you ignore it,and if you care about such details you too ignore it,because it is badly executed to the point of insignificance.
