Experience Scrolls
Kinda takes the fun out of leveling characters. I figured they introduced the jump to level 20 scrolls to give players a kickstart into leveling alternates so they would continue on with that leveling and to compensate for leveling via crafting professions which many players wouldn’t want to do more than once per craft. It wouldn’t bother me if they implemented your suggestion, but I think what really needs to be done is to add something that encourages players to have a reason to level up alternates by playing on the many deserted maps. Something like new special events that occur randomly on various maps where the rewards for non-level 80 characters outweigh the rewards for the level 80s. i.e. If you use a level 50 to complete one of these events, any chest reward you get from the event or boss has a better probability to be something rare or exotic than if you had used a level 80. That way you have a reason to play non-maxed characters, while still leveling them. As it is, players tend to level to 80 and then only use those level 80s for everything else they do. To keep the game alive longer, the developers need to promote replay-ability. New expansions would help, but in the meantime greater rewards for lower level characters could work to peak interest and bring at least some life back to these maps since you would still need to get your characters into to each map in order to participate in any event, which means at least some leveling along the way. When I played guild wars 1, I really only had one main character that I played and used for everything because I had no reason to level any other character. Even with the expansions, I still used my main, so players need some incentive to play low level characters, otherwise they won’t.
There was a HUGE topic with this when the first players started to get their bday presents, but there was no reaction from ANET, i was very disappointed of that..
In the other topic there was a coment that i realy liked:
“- Happy birthday Jake, here is a bike with training wheels for you :)
- But im 30 years old now, im riding a motorcycle…
- Well okay than, give it to your son, happy birthday”
However, they will do nothing about this, they just don’t care :)
