Exploration mode for WvW maps
I’ve posted about this problem as well, however your idea is also pretty good and would work. Its painfully obvious that the Map completion in WvWvW needs to be changed.
Get it taken down -
Do whatever it takes if you care about this game -
Yeah. I hope this gets improved. It would be neat to have a version that would allow for a more relaxed experience with exploration and meeting players from other servers.
I understand. I’m on a server that doesn’t participate in WvW as actively as others, and we’re usually getting our butt kicked. This makes finding all of these Vistas, POIs extremely difficult. There can be as many as 20 players at an area, and only one or two on your side – there’s no way you’d survive if you tried to get there.
I love the idea of making friends with your enemy servers as well in a more relaxed setting. However, personally I wouldn’t want it to be that easy. I think people are trying to make map completion way too easy, when it’s supposed to be difficult to achieve.
Just split exploration into World and Mysts.
Exploring the WvW maps should have their own track in the WvW achievement section, and the explorer title should count only Tyria, not the Mysts.
People is transferring to other servers to be able to get 100%, because otherwise they may never get it done, while others get it done extremely easy, depending on their server.
THAT·SHOULD·NOT·HAD·TO·HAPPEN.
People that go to WvW should go to fight for their world, not to take slots to explore a little and then go back to their own world, without fighting at all.
I waited for survivor and drunkard to be changed in GW1, because they were unreasonable as they were. And also for Legendary Defender of Ascalon.
It took 5 and 3 years, but they finally made the change to make them reasonable. And despite a few whiners, everyone one else saw it was good.
This is another case of unreasonable achievement. And so, I strongly believe that must be changed, so it becomes good too.
Sooner or later they’ll see this situation is not acceptable, and change it too. I don’t mind having to wait, but I’ll wait as long as it takes.
I refuse to change servers just to get a little star next to my name like other players in my guild had to do.

But Vistas were already implemented to make exploration more difficult. When I first tried vistas, I wanted to strangle the guys who made them. But I got used to them and now think they pose a good challenge.
Exploration has more to do with time and patience than how difficult it may or may not be. Adding exploration in a PVP setting makes for a stressing experience. I already get plenty of that in real life.

WvW does have a PVE component and it would be advantageous to meet players from other servers besides having to obliterate them. The same map could be used for either “World versus World” and “World meets World”. In WvW, exploring does offer nice PVP rewards. In WmW we would be allowed to complete maps reasonably, without exploits, and have more socializing opportunities.

Agreed.
I am a bit torn on this. One one hand, you want 100% completion without getting 100% completion. By 100% completion I mean going to every part of the game. The flip side is that if your server or playtime puts you at a disadvantage that you either face not getting completion or switching servers to do so.
I personally believe that you should have separate rewards/achievements for WvW as PvE. There should be 2 map completion separate for each other with rewards geared towards the separate type of play,
I’m sitting at 74% completion and it hasn’t moved for about 2 weeks probably more because I don’t have much interest in exploring the PVE side much more since I already know I’ll never be able to get the POI, Vistas and what not in the WvW maps since my server sucks/ has not much interest in PVP. I haven’t even seen WvW myself but just looking at the WvW panel seeing who is on the winning side I can tell you its not my server, and I will not transfer for fear I wont be able to get back to play with my friends/guild mates on my home server (I’m very happy with my server besides the whole PvP issue).
I also don’t think I should have to rely on the others on my server in order to get map completion, I think I should be able to handle that myself if I so choose to have map completion.
I did have a chance to get some POI in the WvW once but, as real life unfolded I was not able to log in during that time and lost the chance.
I just love the idea. I like the WvW maps but every time I do a complicated vista or a jumping puzzle instead of helping out, I feel bad for my server follows who are basiclly one man down.
I also do block a spot for those who want to do WvW. And since I like WvW myself I know how frustration this is not to be able to get even to the boraderlands and you have to query up.
An exploration mode where you just can walk around and perhaps have some dynamic events or spontaniously team up with people from other server seems great me and by the way I think stonemist castle is an awesome roleplaying spot.
yer they should make it so that WvW has a diffident world completion to PvE world completion
I have a big problem with exploration and jumping puzzles when it comes to WvW.
Taking that I am one of the players that doesn’t enjoy pvp, no mater whether there are pve elements in it or not, I feel like anet is making me take part in something I AM NOT COMFORTABLE IN just because of an achievement.
While I was doing Emerald sanctum today I got killed five times by a player who is actually just standing there and waiting to kill people who are doing the puzzle. I am sorry, I have almost no experience in pvp hence I get killed every time by this backstabber….. I strongly believe they should add an option to make a player “Explorer” and thus making him/her be invulnerable to attacks of players who are there to kill each other. backstabber. This kind of thing makes me rethink why am I even playing this game….
It should be possible to phase those people who want to just explore out of the PvP. I agree with the above sentiments. I absolutely detest PvP and am frustrated by the difficulty in completing this part of the game. Maybe ANet could charge some gems for the “Explorer” facility.
I am unsure what “bumping” means but if it means that this topic is looked at again, that’s my idea.
I came to this thread looking for a suggestion similar to Nikola Rebic’s one, though I like also the OP’s idea. My idea was an “explorer mode” in which the character didn’t count as a fighting player, thus he would still be killable, but he wouldn’t count as a victory for the other players, neither he would be a reinforcement for his team. They could be marked with a star or something like some NPCs in game. Of course mean players could still kill them for the pleasure, adding to the difficulty, but since they would mean no reward, that would discourage quite a bunch of people, making exploring more fair (It is not the same to fight against an AI than another player, and it’s not the same to explore dodging PvE foes than trying to avoid a player to kill you). And again PvE dangers and challenges would be there too.
I know people says “That’s the way to make you explore all the world” but in this case, why Dungeons don’t count for the Map Completion Achievement?.
Players like some of us who don’t like other players trying to kill us aren’t a burden or sissies. We just want to explore because it is beautiful and fun. And that way, we all woud win.

This would definitely bring back to me some will to complete map again with alts rather than keep them on 90% map and having no intention in the world to even approach WvW maps for a mistake.

sadly, this is something many of us have been begging for since launch. we still don’t know the reason why anet has determined that 100% exploration requires the mists, as well as tyria. further, we’ve never yet, that i’ve seen, received any response of “we hear you, we’re looking into this” or conversely, “we hear you, but we’re not changing it, and this is why.” if you scroll back through the suggestions forum to launch, you’ll see what i’m talking about.
i found on my 100% completion that i just had to accept that that last 3% of map completion would take me anywhere from three weeks to a month-and-a-half to complete, depending on wvw rotation, etc.
yo, anet? you guys there? can you at least tell us why you think this is such a bloody good idea for us pve bunnies to be forced to do this? we’ve only been begging for an explanation for, oh, about a year now …
In the new matchup system, the servers rotate colours. When you’re server is “Red” you should be able to get all the “Red” poi’s, keep vistas, etc during that week. Next week you’ll be “Blue” and repeat. Especially right after a reset when you own all your stuff. You won’t spend a year as “Red” because your server doesn’t participate much in WvW.
Personally, I got all my WvW maps first before PvE, but I think this recent change was made to make things more reasonable for non-WvW players and seems like a good fix to me.
I know that, Threat. Before posting here I’ve been checking many of the posts about this issue, and I always get the same replies “It is not mandatory” “It is part of the world so why complain” and all that. Fortunatelly some people like you gave some useful advice.
But my point is… being in WvW just exploring makes me an easy target (and people has no qualm about it, today I was trying to decide the path for a vista when three enemies attacked me by surprise, started by an immobilize spell and before I could even react they had already downed me… How can people find that funny? It was like bullies at school!), and I’m really not interested in fighting other players. Actually that’s what I like from GW2: unlike other MMRPGs, and like the original phylosophy of the old pen & paper RPGs, it encourages people to collaborate. I understand making a world appart for people who still like to kill each other but why force us to explore it, when exploration is a mostly pacific task?
